Lack of competition fueled US baby formula shortage

By Agence France-Presse

There's no end in sight to America's shortage of baby formula -- and the crisis has highlighted the lack of competition that has spread to all parts of the US economy, even essential ones such as food for infants.

The problem "is not going to solve itself in a day or week," Brian Deese, a top White House economic advisor, told CNN Friday.

He was unable to say how long the crisis would last.

This article reminds me of how utility companies and state legislatures are trying to block home owners from selling back solar panel generated energy into the grid...and how big ag is decimating the small farmer....

1. I clearly remember sometime in the 90s

The Clinton admin (Iím pretty sure) sued the 2 manufacturers of formula for price-fixing - instead of competing for customers, they agreed to price their products the same since there was no competition. Since WIC pays for fully 25% of formula, the feds got involved. I believe it was settled out of court. But nothing has changed.
