2. Not the OP, but, I caught a couple of minutes of it as I walked by the TV.

I was busy, or else I would have watched the entire segment.

It was pretty funny.

It appeared to be satire...some guy convincing conspiracy theorists that birds are not real.

4. I'm guessing this is the "fake conspiracy theory" of sorts...

...called "Birds Aren't Real". I didn't see the show tonight, so I'll have to wait to see if a clip shows up on YouTube. The main guy who's behind the parody of conspiracy theories is really great at PR and marketing. It doesn't hurt that the overall concept is so funny.

5. Apologies..

I’m not good at links..on 60 Minutes they interviewed a young guy who brainstormed w/ a couple of friends to put out a conspiracy theory that birds aren’t real..they’re CIA drones n they sit on power lines to get their charge. I hope someone more clever than I can put it up..very cool.

3. During this year's NCAA basketball championship...

Someone held up a “Birds Aren’t Real” sign.

Guess those Jayhawks showed them! Rock Chalk!

6. The "Birds Aren't Real" subreddit is hilarious

https://www.reddit.com/r/BirdsArentReal/

Q: What is this movement's purpose?

A: The Birds Aren't Real movement exists to spread awareness that the U.S. Government genocided over 12 Billion birds from 1959-2001, and replaced these birds with surveillance drone replicas, which still watch us every day. Once a preventative cause, our initial goal was to stop the forced extinction of real birds. Unfortunately this was unsuccessful, and the government has since replaced every living bird with robotic replicas. Now our movement's prerogative is to make everyone aware of this fact.

Q: What do you mean 'birds aren’t real'?

A: The term “Birds Aren’t Real” refers to biological “Birds” no longer existing on United States soil. After the government forcibly made the entire species extinct in the 20th century, all of these real birds were replaced with surveillance drones designed to look just like Birds. To simplify- Birds no longer exist in the U.S. as a biological lifeform, thus, Birds Aren’t Real!

Q: Is this movement serious?

A: Yes. The Birds Aren’t Real movement has been active since 1976. Once a preventative cause, our initial goal was to stop the genocide of real birds. Unfortunately this was unsuccessful, and the government has since replaced every living bird with robotic replicas. Now our movement's prerogative is to make everyone aware of this fact.

8. So this "bird flu" going around now is a computer virus?

Why can't they just reprogram them to avoid our bird feeders for awhile?

9. 'Clock show' 60 Minutes does epic interview with 'Birds Aren't Real' parody conspiracy theorists

Link:
https://www.rawstory.com/birds-arent-real-60-minutes/

Now, one of the more famous fake conspiracy theories used to mock QAnon followers and the far right is getting the "60 Minutes" treatment.

Peter McIndoe explained that seagulls are a perfect example that birds aren't real. He noted that if one watches them swoop down and grab your food, they don't actually eat it. According to McIndoe, the birds take it back to the Pentagon to be studied.

"I'm not gonna go on news shows, but shows about clocks and time, I'm okay sharing my information with," said McIndoe with a dead-panned expression. "I understand this isn't anything like the media. So, thanks for having me on your clock show."

The group also includes Cameron Kasky, a Parkland student who survived the mass shooting at his high school and also joined the campaign

10. I don 't find it funny

I suppose I did once, but I no longer underestimate the stupidity of people. I'd guess about 25% of the US population would be at risk of taking it seriously, and it will be the birds that suffer. I'm fond of birds, and they don't deserve it.

14. Seems funny but it's not. Not really.

My 74 year old brother is a Trump supporter - let's get that out of the way right now.

He has a Masters degree in science and taught in Chicago area high schools for over 20 years.

He recently sent me an email saying he supports an online 'thought experiment' that the Moon is a holograph.

WTF???

Again... a retired science teacher read some online hogshit claiming that the Moon that AMERICANS HAVE WALKED ON isn't real, but is a fucking holograph.

And he can vote. Can you blame me for not communicating with him too often?

This shit is getting scary.

15. Some theoretical physicists are trying to prove that the universe is a hologram.

The universe is a 2-dimensional hologram that we see as 3-dimensional.
