I'm on a nearly 600 ft hill that's higher than anything else from the coast (8 miles south) and the wind is howling. The trees are rocking significantly and the guists just tear leaves off and send them flying through the air. It's intense.

Make sure to keep all your portables connected, full charge, matters.

My electronics are on UPS units, so I can safely shut them down and also bring up the TV for short durations. Once the storm is over I'll fire up the generator.

The wind has picked up but it isn't all that intense. Lots of leaves are down but there had been a significant leaf fall before the storm.

have city water and city gas and gas stove and hot water heater. During Irene we had no electricity for 4 days but we could cook on our stove burners and take hot showers. That really helped!

Looks like Atlantic City has taken a big pounding.

I've been checking out the action on the Great Lakes this morning...this really has become the "perfect storm"...so many people have already been seriously affected by Sandy and I can only wonder how many millions more.

When it's the East Coast, that's different.

I'd say you NYers better hunker down or get the hell outta there. Some of us already know what it's like.

...and I cannot believe the IDIOTS! why would someone stand on the beach and watch this thing? why would a mom take her kids to the shore to take pics? there's no end to human's stupidity... WTF? I would be SO outta there!

see, living in the west, we don't get the luxury of seeing things coming at us with earthquakes...if I had the option to evacuate, hells yeah I'd be GONE!
