Elizabeth Warren is correct.
It's Rigged....

nb: do you have evidence that Trump has actually committed tax fraud? That's not the same thing as fraudulent business practices.

(11,296 posts)(and business) that are capable of defending themselves ... Is not an easy task. (quite apart from the fact that we're currently on a campaign to draw and quarter Alvin Bragg) And - despite the fact that it makes people furious - there are a whole lot of completely legal 'cheats' in business and the tax code. And, unsurprisingly, the wealthy pay people to employ them. Don't like it? Don't blame the IRS. Put some teeth in (and change) the laws - and ditto with the IRS.
The GOP has been engaged in kneecapping government agencies for decades. It'd be pretty surprising if there weren't some noticeable return on those efforts. And all of that skirts the point you put forward - can you 'prove' that DJT committed tax fraud?

(11,730 posts)Money buys power. If you can hire lawyers to find loopholes or file motions, or just gum up the works enough, then you can reduce your tax liability, or escape from problems.
That is the way that it has always been. Elizabeth Warren, wonderful as she is, is not the first person to say it. FDR knew it. Hell Teddy Roosevelt knew it. The New Deal and the Square Deal before it were attempts to level the playing field.
The problem is that Wealthy people will always look for ways of keeping, or more likely expanding their wealth and power. Just look back at the political cartoons from the 19th and early 20th centuries. The famous one of the various Trusts in Congress or the ones depicting the workers holding up the various levels of society with the wealthy at the top.
The IRS goes after the easiest money to collect. That is, sad to say, our money. Those of us who can't afford to have teams of lawyers to make it very difficult time consuming, and expensive for them to collect our money.
