At noon Coumo orders the evacuation of 310,000 people from low lying areas and then announces he is

Shutting down all metro services at 7pm...7 hours to evacuate 310,000 people, many with no other transportation than metro...what could go wrong...

Although, are all of these people in NYC, or surrounding towns that don't have metro? Is the Big Apple shutting down?

and how many exits are available to people who need them?

Here in Alabama, we have ONE 4 lane running from the Gulf/Beaches/low lying to safety in the north.

ONE.

It helps to know the "back roads" but few do.

which includes 3 small barrier island communities, and the entire coastal region below 700ft sea level.

I honestly don't have the information to give you an accurate reply...

My post was more of the shock that he would announce at 12pm that public trans would be shutting down at 7pm.

If it was me I would have said we will run as long as it is safe to do so to help get everyone out.

I am just glad im not there.

Subways in NYC will begin shutting down at 7 and the buses at 9. At least that's what the head of the MTA said on MSNBC a while ago. He expects it to be all locked down by 3am.
