Dear Mrs. Romney, SHUT THE HELL UP
I am one of those horrible public school teachers you and your husband and your party see as "the enemy". I started teaching in 1995 at a K-12 public, community school (one of only about six in Tennessee).
We need to talk, so please walk with me over the oh-so-French fleur de lis-looking scrolly thing...
First of all, for some reference, let's have a linky to the stinking pile of crap that you unloaded on Good Housekeeping. As a former local new reporter who suffered through an interview with Bill Frist in his dumbass American flag tie, let me tell you, you should RIGHT NOW thank the journalism gods that I didn't do this interview because I'm so fed up with lying pols, I would have ripped into you like Hurricane Sandy, but that's for another day.
Let's talk about THIS comment:
Where to begin, where to begin...I'll start with the first line
As a First Lady of the State, please tell me how that had to do with actually setting foot in a classroom? Have you taught a non-nanny-cared-for kid how to read? Have you taught an ELL kid how to structure a sentence in English? How many kids have you tutored to take the ACT? Then SHUT THE HELL UP.

(14,543 posts)Michelle Obama made one statement about being proud of the country, and the republicans jumped all over her head, and the media piled out.
This shrill dipstick has said a half dozen things that if she were a D, would get the same treatment, but because she is a republican, she gets the hands off treatment.

(1,417 posts)get away with all of the crap Ann Romney has said this election year. They were calling her an angry militant over much little in 2008. Yet Ann has shown her anger and snottiness so many times and has never been called out for it like Michelle was over that "proud" remark.

Under the Republicans plan, they will be put back in state run institutions if Mommy and Daddy cannot keep them at home and educate/care for them.

Get rid of regulation - Really? All regulations, or just the ones that stop rich people from making even more money no matter what the cost to the environment, workers, etc.?
START using our natural resources - Is that code for drilling anywhere and everywhere for oil and hope that Americans won't ever get the fact that unless we nationalize our oil...the only ones who profit from increased drilling are the oil companies. WE don't get a damn thing out of their sucking the resources out of our country!
Gawd, she's a typical empty headed republican parrot!

(19,458 posts)"get rid of regulation?" Oh, so that millions of people will die in small earthquakes because we didn't regulate the building of their homes? Or maybe we all choke to death from pollution?
Use our natural resources = DRILL off the California coast, strip mining, and fracking.

(16,254 posts)The Republican party is so focused on getting rid of the public schools so they can wipe out the union and their friends can set up charter schools (funded by the US govt., of course). The last thing they care about is the kids.
Privatizing schools, prisons, utilities...whatever they can get their greedy little hands on...is on the list beside Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.
She's just repeating what she's heard in those dinner parties for the elite and deserving friends of hers.

It's so obvious these people don't give a shit about public education - and by extension, 90% of the entire country. All they care about is pushing down the cost of their property taxes.

(14,337 posts)with BA and 5 years experience (!!!) and in school 12 hour days. TA, with Associates Degree, $8/hour for 6 hour day. When they cannot find staff to work for those wages, they lower their educational requirements, not raise the salaries. We have seen this. One charter was shut down years ago for hiring teachers with only HS diplomas and TA's without even that. I won't go into the SANITARY conditions at that Charter. They didn't hire janitors. Yes, it was shut down by the State. This charter was on LI about 50 miles from NYC.

(14,337 posts)Got rated F 2 years in a row. The principal complained that was because all they were getting were D and F students from public schools!
Hello, if your kid was getting A's and B's why the hell would you want to switch them to a charter school? This principal must have flunked LOGIC.

(16,254 posts)If they didn't have to pay those taxes, they would have that much more money in their pockets. Your salary may be good, but your class size needs to be larger...you should be teaching twice as many children, you greedy person, you! Without the unions, they will be able to do SO much more to our public schools, like close them. They have friends and corporate contributors who would love to get their hands on all the children in the US (except for those requiring special care) set up charter schools and charge by the head. Those children will be taught the Republican curriculum, be able to pray in school and, those who don't adhere to their policies, will be sent to the contract jails and/or prisons until they learn to conform.
Honestly, you just don't get it!
I hear ya. Our family has many teachers and they are all upset and have been for quite a while. Goodness will prevail. Gotta believe that.

(135,425 posts)She didn't do SHIT the whole time she was first lady of "a" state.
Notice how none of 'em will dare say MASSACHUSETTS? Money Boo Boo says "my" state, Queen Ann says "a" state. No one says The Frigging Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Why?
Because if they start saying the name, people from "this" state will start talking about how much they SUCKED in their roles. Money Boo Boo left his job--and didn't run for reelection--with Dubya-like approval numbers. He -- what's the phrase?--STUNK ON ICE in his job. He was the Worst. Governor. Ever. The only reason he didn't destroy the state is because he had no power, the "weak governor" model (like TX) is what saved the Commonwealth residents (the actual ones, not the carpetbagger governor and his creepy bride).
The legislature ran Massachusetts during his tenure. They laughingly called him "Governor No." He'd veto, they'd deliver unto him a middle finger, and they'd override his pissy little veto. That's how a bill became law in Money Boo Boo's Massachusetts!

(8,492 posts)Yes, there are situations when I think a charter school may be best for some students. My son probably would have benefitted. He had a hard time in public schools up until high school and I couldn't afford a private school. A friend's daughter went to a charter school after having a horrible time in public school and now she's working towards her college degree. However, she went to an exceptional charter. There needs to be more oversight at charters to ensure that all charters produce what they promise.
BUT!!!
What Ann is suggesting is eliminating public schools. How about we address the problems with public schools such as overcrowding, out-of-date curriculum, poor nutrition, too few teachers, bored students AND teachers and lack of interest from parents? No. It's easier to blame the unions. It is fiscally impossible to expect charter schools to take the load of all public schools and it is completely unnecessary. We need to even the playing field and make sure that the urban schools are receiving the same attention as the suburban schools. Public schools still offer more than a charter in many ways. Diversity in curriculum, extracurricular activities (let's focus on more than just sports!) and I also believe it helps develop a sense of responsibility more than a charter.
Charter schools have become demons on DU only because too many aren't seeing the benefits to students who need a more structured one-on-one experience. On the other side, public schools have become the demons. The problem is, the people who are demonizing teachers, unions and public schools are the same people who caused the inequality in education that we have today. We need to stop arguing about this crap and start working together to improve our schools, both public and charter. It's about the kids.

(28,795 posts)GH: So tell me about your horses.
AR: It's funny [about horses].... You have to find something that'll pull you away from those scary places. And it was my husband telling me, "I don't care if you're in a wheelchair for the rest of your life. I don't care whether you make dinner; I can eat cold cereal and toast. As long as we're together, as long as you're here, we're going to be OK." I'm sorry. (Tearing up)

(23,272 posts)direct, firsthand experienced with public schools? How would you have the first inkling of what the problems are and how to fix those problems for a "proper" education? You grew up wealthy, privileged and attending expensive private schools as did your husband and children. Are ANY of your current family members attending a public school?
Secondly, your ignorance of even 5 basic "simple" points for the Rethug agenda demonstrates that even THOSE principles aren't sincerely held. Because if you passionately believed in them, you'd NEVER forget them.

(10 posts)I don't know. I try to give everyone a chance. Nonone since GWB and Cheney has made me so sick at my stomach has have the Romneys. Not even Sarah Palin in all her glorious ignorance sent off these signals in my brain. It's that sense of pure evil I get coming off them. I think back in '08 I was scared, now I'm beyond that.. I don't know what I am.
I never thought this country would be so dumb as to elect anyone ever resembling evil like that again. And public schools. She has not a clue...
Jellybeanz
(10 posts)I was posting about Mrs. Romney , public schools and the pure evils, got distracted by work, I'm on topomax for migraines which they say makes you stupid and I believe it, I can't even remember how to spell!!! LOL...
But I wanted to finish my thought.. How could she know about schools? Seriously?
My heart sinks at the thought of her as our first lady. But somehow, somehow this can't happen. Surely goodness and light will prevail. Surely all that is good will prevail. I live in the deep south as I have stated before. Yet I've seen documentaries and know that I'm insulated. That as much as I see racism going on in my own family, and I'm so ashamed, it goes on in other countries. It goes on because people are poor, are a different color, are handicapped, can't speak for themselves, so many reasons.
And I have always admired teachers. I remember Oprah Winfrey once mentioning it was a teacher who inspired her. I remember teachers who had an impact on me. I didn't turn out to be anything special, but I tell you what, at least I'm not racist like my parents or spouse.
So in some respect, perhaps I have progressed I consider myself a progressive and champion of the poor and disadvantaged anyway. But I wonder HOW did I go this way and everyone else stay the same? We are all fairly poor.. I mean really, we are. We all white. One of my brothers born handicapped, I have kidney disease. Two other brothers have serious diseases. All of them , even my mother of almost 80 goes to church. All racist. And all republicans. It's like they vote against themselves. Over and over.
My only difference is I don't go to church. I used to, but I felt it very cult like so I stopped. Now I have mixed feelings about spirituality. I feel spiritual, I have a rosary hanging in car my nephew gave me, but family is very non catholic, lol, but I just prefer to keep that stuff personal.
Sorry for rambling, had to come back to add more. Probably too much. Election please get here and be over!!!!
