Today, I have gotten strange ads advertising a Samsung Galaxy S10, an iPhone or a Netflix subscription. The ad pops up and makes my interaction on DU impossible. Is anyone else experiencing this? Thanks. Any suggestions?!

(1,137 posts)Because I have experienced it too, is it feels like DU has been hacked. Normal ads go away. These dont. They make it impossible to use the site, unless you X out of the screen and start a new one, only for that to happen all over again. I could not use DU, without exiting and coming back, due to ads that refused to go away or let me use the back arrow to go back to DU. This is not normal and seems designed to make it to frustrating to use the site.

(1,137 posts)When that happened. Everything went away, after I logged in. Thing is, that is a great way to get rid of possible new donors. Why donate if all you get is ads freezing you out of the site. It does not make sense DU would have ads that freeze you out of the regular site.

(5,670 posts)I saw ads because my logged in status was not available. I am mindful of which browser I use now.

(1,137 posts)If I cannot afford to support them at a particular moment in time, I have gladly clicked through and showed my support in that manner. The thing with these ads is they are not real. It is one of those things that pop up, saying you are the 100th customer today, so you win a Galaxy phone.
That ad pops up without clicking on anything. No matter how much I clicked on the back arrow, it would not let me go back to DU. The only way I knew to get back here was to exit that screen and start a new one.
These are the type of ads you see pop up on FB or possibly surfing the internet. They are ones I immediately think scam, as soon as I see it.
They are not like any normal ads I have ever seen on DU.

(47,405 posts)But mine wasn't on any particular site. They were pop-up ads on my computer from a photo software company that I use. I couldn't get them to go away and it blocked my screen. I actually had to restart my computer numerous times. I complained to the company and eventually it was fixed, but it was frustrating at the time.

(679 posts)The ad was attached somehow to Safari and interfered with my ability to do anything, see anything. I followed some instructions and added an adblocker from the AppStore and FINALLY got rid of this huge annoyance and frustration.
