7. It depends on the state

in some the executive party determines who is on top.. (Imagine a Green governor)

In others the secretary of state has that power.

This is the joy of not having one election but 51 state elections.

I don't know if it was that way statewide, but I found this:

" in races where there was one candidate for each political party, the Republican party candidate will be listed first, because the G.O.P. (and nominee John McCain) carried West Virginia in the 2008 presidential election."

And is really liberal. She is a bit nuts, but we all know that, as does she, and she's really smart. She should run for a state-level office in Hawaii.

Then under a secret codicil to the XXV Amendment Mitt Romney and family would get a reality show. After the Karashians I'm not sure how much more we can take.

Stein, Hoefling, Romney and lastly Johnson. California likes to mix things up, either by Congressional or Assembly district, I forget which, so no candidate is first or last throughout the state. It was fun during the primaries trying to find a particular candidate in a list of 25+ names in random order.

Our state lists Republican candidates in the first column, Libertarian & Constitution/Other Parties
combined together in the second column, Democratic candidates third with a fourth column available
for write-in candidates. This has always been, by my memory, how the parties have been listed.

17. In California IIRC they are randomized order. Sure seemed that way this time, too.

Sometimes you will see an extremely minor presidential candidate at the top, lol.
