(7,285 posts)I think the Russians are a logistical and organizational mess.
A lot of the video I see seems to show poorly supported and chaotic columns. If the Ukrainians put up any kind of hard resistance, that's going to lead to a lot of Russians casualties. One thing we've learned from 20 years of war is that movements have to be tightly coordinated and supported. Asymmetrical attacks can be very effective against isolated, unsupported units.

(5,555 posts)They are entering the outskirts of Kiev in roughly a day, having covered ~200 miles of ground. That is a crazy fast rate of advance for a mechanized force during wartime.
Most of the Russian forces have not engaged. Their tactics appear to be to overrun the countryside and encircle the cities. This freezes the Ukrainian military into pockets that cannot support each other. Once this is done, bring the bulk of their forces into play and crush the cities one by one until the Ukrainians capitulate.
Its going to be bloody. Which is why we need to be cutting Russia off from SWIFT and bringing other pressure to get Putin to actually back down.

(32,629 posts)NATO allies must realize this, there are bright people watching every move. Putin's naked aggression needs to be condemned everywhere, by every world leader.
Solidarity with Ukraine!

(21,304 posts)what good will it do if that puppet can't enforce anything? Why doesn't it matter that the rest of Ukraine is still being governed by Ukranian officials? The Ukranian military isn't going to enforce what a puppet wants. Russia is going to have to occupy the country amidst an insurgency. I'm betting on the Ukranian people holding out longer than the Russian invaders.

(21,304 posts)If Putin envisioned the military and civilians surrendering, he made a fatal miscalculation.
Pinocet drove tanks up to the federal building in Santiago, Chile and fired 26 rockets into the building and overthrew the elected government. Big difference in Chile, Pinocet had the support of the Chilean military.
Putin may be able to install a puppet but he will never be able to keep him in power. It may take a while, but Putin fucked up and we need to tie Republicans to Putin every chance we get. We need to tie Republicans to Trump's support of Putin.
