I see all these nuts are going to duck duck- How Google worksI sold enterprise search andunderstand the algorithms. The way google works is the most popular results( in hits or times that result was viewed) comes up first. It is not based on metadata. We actually tried to sell our technology to Google in 2007 and ironically 5 years later Google used us for their litigation. They said to us metadata shmetdata. There was a google box they sold for a short time to corporations. It failed miserably because the results were based on views and not relevancy. People do pay to get their site on top on Google.. One hint that you should know about Google. The more you define what you want to see in your results in the search box the better it works. You might have to put in a sentence. Also, some of your best info is on page 3 and 4 of the results.

I have not found any evidence whatsoever of China ownership or control of DuckGo

Could you please explain that part a little more? Or do I misunderstand the subject line? Thanks.

6. I've used DuckDuckGo for years. The only thing I use google for is to bootleg British crime
dramas before they are available here. That is a no no. I know those posting those dramas shouldn't, and I shouldn't stream them, but I am addicted. And DuckDuckGo doesn't allow it.
Google does. I am wondering where this sudden campaign against DuckDuckGo is coming from. All of a sudden it is the subject of many posts, which means it is the subject of many news stories. After years in business. I would wager that lots more right wingers use Google than use DuckDuckGo. |

9. I only said that
because the right wing doesn't understand how google works. They think results are being suppressed and it is not how google works.

21. It's part of their authoritarian mindset and some projection.
They would suppress things (See: Any mention of their racism) Therefore, they believe it to be a common practice.
What the dumbling caste consistently fails to grasp in their limited reptilian brainish stems is that Google is first and foremost a BUSINESS and as such it has the primary purpose of making MONEY. Suppression is the opposite of making money. |

17. let me simplify how the search works
results are based on the number of clicks a particular answer is looked at. The more it is looked at the higher up in the result set it will become. It does not mean it is the right answer. It means that what is most popular is higher up in the result set.

18. What does that have to do with your attack on users of DuckDuckGo?
And, duh. One would assume that PART of Google's algorithm is based on popularity. It's pretty obvious that there are numerous other factors, such as how many sites link to a given potential result, how much a given site spends on Google advertising, personal tracking of the person doing the search, etc.

19. and you sold search when?
Most of the first results are paid for and it says it clearly in the result set. I was attacking the right wing. Our search engine was so good we could tell you whether you were searching for Java the bean, Java the island or Java the coding language.
here is the article. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/02/23/technology/duckduckgo-conspiracy-theories.html |

22. It's not just that.
Assuming they know your search history, they are giving you things you like. They also know where you are in the world and will give you results based on that. If I just search for a movie (and am not using a VPN), it will give me movie times in my town for that movie today. If I then start searching for one of the stars in that movie, I won't need to put in more than a couple letters before it suggests that actor because it knows I just searched for the movie. Their algorithm does more than just clicks.
