The slow disappearance of "Trumpaltars"
" I think I coined the word "Trumpaltar", but you all can use it and spread it around a bit if you want. They were rare to begin with in Connecticut. But, you know, there are always a few wingnuts everywhere. In my community these Trumpsters erected a lawn display or every imaginable Trump banner, poster, cardboard cutout of the Donald, and other paraphernalia. Several of the "altars" disappeared last week. I think the accounting firm Mazars' statements to the Attorney General of New York regarding the unreliability of Trump's statements was the final nail in the coffin for them. All of the Trump stuff is gone from their yards, and now there are just a few U. S. Flags. Of course, they are not immediate converts to a new political stance, but they feel that they have been duped and are embarrassed about supporting Trump and the money that they spent on their "Trumpaltar." I don't think we will be seeing any Trump 2024 signs on this lawn. If you have a report to add to this post in your neck of the woods, please post here. I love being on DU.

He's right on the busiest street in town 5 blocks east of downtown. 5 big flags. "Thank You Prsdnt T...", "Women for T", "T Won", and so on. Then he's got at least 10 yard signs. I know him personally. Typical smalltowner. He owns a tiny blacktopping company & thinks he's running Apple. I guarantee he's never made with $80,000 of our retirement income, but thinks the "great businessman" had all the answers. Given how dumb he is, that he has an income at all should keel him satisfi with life. But, no. |

5. We still see flags and some signs on fences.
Here in East TN. There are also flags on trucks. There are fewer but they are not gone.
There is a large construction site ...looks like a big housing project..that has a Trump 2020 sign on their board where permits and such usually are. It is going very slowly. I hope there are serious problems. They have already rearranged the terrain dramatically. There will be flooding issues. |

14. Hi neighbor
I'm in East TN too.
I agree we had a lot of Trumpaltars that may take awhile to melt away. I say melt because the wind and rain we are getting out here in the boondocks is enough to melt away and tear up any cheap materials. And Trump paraphernalia is nothing if not cheap. But in my very sparsely occupied area there were 3 Trumpaltars. 1 came down right after TFG lost the election. Another came down about 3 months after TFG lost. But the final guy up in the woods, which makes it hard to see, still has one. It use to be everything, flags, lawn signs, cutouts, banners and impeach Biden signs all over his front lawn. He's a pretty nasty guy so no one is surprised that he's holding on to his Hate God. But now it's just one go Brandon sign. I suspect even that is gone now what with the heavy rains. I haven't checked because flooding is a problem with the bad roads around here. But I bet it has slid down his Round Up destroyed steep roadside. It costs to keep replacing those cheap signs. |

we see ragged Trump crap and Confederate flags. Want to tell them they really do not respect those images, but really do not want to interact with them.
I am from GA, my great great great(?) grandfather was a Confederate soldier. Blount County was split during the war. I want to ask people with Confederate flags about which ancestor they are honoring....but again, do not want to speak to them. |

25. I'm further north in Greene county
I think Rogersville changed hands over 3 times and Franklin county, not a county anymore, didn't like the South and didn't like the North and seceded from the sucession. Then the Confederacy sent in troops to make them behave.
There's an old church up the way that has slave grave markers in the front of the cemetery. Most people in East TN were too poor to own slaves so I think they were buried there because they died on the underground railroad. It's not clear why they were so honored. East Tennessee has always been rebellious. |

I suspect he joined for the hope of food and clothing. Doubt he was even a landowner. He was my father's family. My mother's family owned land and had more money. My mother's brother made an effort to find an ancestor who did not buy his way out of joining the CSA, but he never found one. It was a source of entertainment to some of us. We are from Gwinnett County, GA.

35. Oh I believe it is real
Just that that photo was photoshopped.
In the video that giant cutout is on or near a concrete pad but there is no concrete pad in the picture. Also the video is shot on a cloudy day. The photo was supposedly a sunny day. I think the thing is real but that for some reason that picture was definitely photoshopped. Maybe someone wanted to make it look prettier. Maybe someone wanted to imply that there are crowds there during the summer. Also that front porch is different in the video. It slightly wraps around the building in the video. In the photo it seems to not quit reach the corner of the building. |

One house has a sign that says "If you're not for Trump you're Trespassing", along with a you-know-who-2024 (I try not to type his name or even say it if at all possible) and there's still one with that and a homemade "Let's Go Brandon", but for the most part they're gone. The egregious big homemade one next to the house of a Democrat (known, they had Biden plus all the local/state signs) that stood long past the election has finally been taken down. It was a real eyesore that I had to pass every time I went to the shelter.

Come on down to the shore towns in southern New Jersey. 27. I live in a very blue town, in a very blue state.
Thankfully!
As for Trumpaltars --- during the last election, there were two that I knew of (and saw). There was the one on a very busy road that had a big homemade statue of TFG, dozens of signs, and even more flags, all put out at the end of his driveway as close to the road as he could get. They disappeared soon after the election. The other one was in my neighborhood, but was "low key" for a Trumpaltar. It consisted of a giant TFG sign (professionally printed) and a very big American flag pinned to their fence that faces a busy road, and as many large and small flags as they could possibly fit on their property. However, someone STOLE the fence flag and that actually made me mad. He could put up as many TFG signs as he wanted, but nobody had the right to vandalize the display. |

44. I'm about two hours north of you in WMass.
Western Mass, the epicenter of the MAGA-variety of Massholes. As in your area, not that many Trump altars compared to other parts of the country, but the last one I knew about has been gone for about 4 or 5 months. They had a HUGE Trump banner on the side of their house, and had had other large banners flying over the years with slogans like, "Fuck your feelings, Snowflakes" and I don't even remember what all else. The last banner they had up was for Trump/Desantis 2024, but even that's come down down. (Maybe they realized Desantis is an idiot? Naaaah. That would have made them love him more.) Anyway, nothing new has gone up.
I also know some people who had pro-Trump altars lost business over them. The place where I've bought Christmas trees from since I was a little girl over 50 years ago, had a gigantic Trump flag flying when we went to get our tree in 2020. I would have left and gone elsewhere then and there except I had the grandkids with me and they were too excited to be there so I couldn't really turn around right then. But I made damn sure I didn't go back there this year. I did drive by and see the banner was down this year, but still - fuck those people. This is my own private war on Christmas. |
