It's always a good time to revisit the "two Santa Claus theory" to understand what the GOP does...

from Wikipedia -

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jude_Wanniski

"The Two Santa Claus Theory is a political theory and strategy published by Wanniski in 1976, which he promoted within the United States Republican Party.

According to Wanniski, the theory is simple. In 1976, he wrote that the Two-Santa Claus Theory suggests that "the Republicans should concentrate on tax-rate reduction. As they succeed in expanding incentives to produce, they will move the economy back to full employment and thereby reduce social pressures for public spending. Just as an increase in Government spending inevitably means taxes must be raised, a cut in tax ratesóby expanding the private sectorówill diminish the relative size of the public sector." Wanniski suggested this position, as Thom Hartmann has clarified, so that the Democrats would "have to be anti-Santas by raising taxes, or anti-Santas by cutting spending. Either one would lose them elections.""

Put an even simpler way - in this article http://articles.baltimoresun.com/2012-06-21/news/bs-ed-gop-spending-20120621_1_president-obama-federal-employees-theory

"There is a two Santa Clause theory that started just before Mr. Reagan ran for the White House. It stated that since the Democrats "give" people things ó unemployment benefits, Medicare, Medicaid, etc. ó Republicans should "give" big tax cuts and run up the debt with out of control spending.

Then, when a Democrat is in office, Republicans can scream about the debt and force the Democrats to take away entitlements.

Amazing that they end up getting away with this...and that right wing voters don't see it for what it is....

2. That's EXACTLY what these asshats do.

I've been saying this for years. Glad to finally understand their logic behind their actions.

But, I think that they are playing at a bigger game--I think that they want to lower wages, and increase their profit. That's why they talk a good game when it comes to immigration, but they rarely do anything substantive about it because it has a tendency to lower wages. Once they do away with what they call "entitlements" (they are really "earned benefits", then they'll have a ready slave population that's willing to work for subsistence or below wages.
