GOP senator plans to introduce 'Fauci Act' after clash at hearing

Republican Sen. Roger Marshall (Kan.) plans to introduce the "Fauci Act" after he clashed with infectious disease expert Anthony Fauci at a Senate hearing this week.

Marshall will be introducing the Financial Accountability for Uniquely Compensated Individuals (FAUCI) Act after he said Fauci's records were not readily accessible to the public, a spokesperson for the senator told The Hill.

The Fauci Act would require the Office of Government Ethics (OGE) website to provide the financial records of administration officials like Fauci and a list of those in the government whose financial records are not public.

The move comes after Fauci was caught on a hot mic calling Marshall a "moron" for not knowing the Chief White House medical adviser's financial records were public.

1. What person in their right mind would go into public service today?

And be hounded and threatened every day?

2. It's sounds like a "good government" bill. If I were Fauci, I'd endorse it publicly.

Suggested Fauci Quote:
"Sounds like a great idea, more government transparency is better."

Optional Fauci Quote:
"Anything that helps morons like Marshall get their facts straight is good with me!"

4. Excellent!

Call his bluff.

Of course the bill is going nowhere, since he hasn't apparently consulted yet with his corporate masters, who will promptly tell him to sit down and shut up.

5. Why would they? It's putting limits on government, not corporations.

It's a stunt to name it FAUCI, but it's a decent bill that seems like many can get behind. If I were Kyrsten Sinema, or some other moderate Dem looking for some attention, I'd draft an identical bill without the attack on Fauci, and then move it forward. I imagine it would get bi-partisan support.

14. Financial disclosures can have a lot of Personally identifiable Information.

There can be account numbers and other data that is illegal to release to the public. I urge some thought on this first. Most reports require some redaction for this reason.

There are also those who fill out a confidential financial disclosure (OGE450), such as members of the DOD. Passing out that information outside of the government serves only to help adversaries figure out targets for espionage.

18. I'm sure there is an existing process that can be applied

...for this sort of care.

It's a good request and I imagine a decent, bi-partisan bill will take these things into account.

8. Methinks he should reconsider that move...

I think there are a LOT of gov't appointees that would not like that.

9. Or get someone who can use the google machine.

20 seconds brought up factcheck.org article on how they accessed Fauci's financial report.
