56. RB, omicron's different. Some will be able to isolate so completely

they won't get it, and that may include you.

But word from epidemiologists now is that virtually everyone will, even those who are fully vaccinated and wear masks. It's that infectious. That's how come you're getting the responses you are. Game change.

Labs are of course working on an omicron vaccine that'll do better at preventing infection, not just knocking it down to common-cold level for most as is now the case.

59. The OP clearly is not isolating - he made the observation about people waiting for tests

while driving by. So he's out and about. Even if he was just driving around looking for people to mock, at some point he will be interacting with other people, maybe just when buying gas for his car. But I think we are looking at a Schroedinger's Covid situation, where someone can both have it and not have it because he won't test and won't admit getting it if he does.

61. Could be. I chose to assume the best, even if the attitude

did not fit today's reality. My best guess was the assumption was that the extremely high level of hostility some have toward people who don't vaccinate would embrace this. Again, though, game change. Lotta angry vaccinated people are having to test too.

Fwiw, my husband and I isolate in our vehicle, getting out that way an option for homebodies with cabin fever. Empty gas stations are easy to find since we avoid commuter traffic, my husband because he becomes unglued at all those people in his way, me because of my husband.

29. "Allowed themselves to be"

Omicron is fucking everywhere. I have had three vax doses and wear masks everywhere. I rarely go out, but I was exposed to my brother (we wore masks) who has COVID. He is also triple vaxxed and very careful. So I went to get a test today. Lots of people are like me, so quit your finger wagging at people getting tested. They don't "allow" themselves to get sick, and they aren't anti-vaxxers. They are human beings in a pandemic who want to find out if they are contagious to others.

37. I teach children with severe autism

They cannot wear masks, are under 5 (not vaccinated) cannot distance and body fluids, sneezing, coughing are everywhere. They are aggressive and offen require physical intervention to keep all of the other students safe. We have 1:1 teacher ratio in the classroom which means it is crowded with unmasked high-risk students. Everything goes into their mouths and it is impossible to keep up.
Because our public school building was built in the 1950s the windows open only one inch and we cannot open the doors due to flight risks from the students.

As I do this work day in and day out I need to get tested weekly to keep my immune compromised spouse safe. I take high offense to your assertion and until you walk one day in my shoes (my guess is you would not last 15 minutes) please do not judge those on the testing lines. When we catch covid we need a test to return. Multiplied by the 100+ professionals doing this in the public school I work for on a daily basis and I assure you they would all be disgusted. Covid has decimated our staff and students recently and it is a daily struggle to remain open.

Maybe you should think outside your golden box before you make such a ridiculous statement. I do not need a reply from the likes of your kind.

47. "ALLOWED" themselves

Whatever.

I live in the most progressive part of Brooklyn and people here have been getting it left and right. While masking and boosted. Because we live in a society of people and even with precautions this thing is so contagious we can get it.

My vaccinated and boosted friends had much milder symptoms than my unvaccinated friends. (A family member has covid pneumonia right now... and he was not vaccinated.) Luckily he's doing well and recovering at home.

But there is no moral lapse in getting sick. It's an airborne virus that is super contagious. Unless you live in a bubble, you're going to get exposed to this thing.

51. My boyfriend is being tested tomorrow....

It is the earliest appointment he could get. He is filled vaxxed, with booster. He works in a scientific lab. He cannot work with radiation from home. Just not an option. He uses k95 masks. Recently, everyone in his lab upgraded to those. Before, they could wear the blue masks. If you are not wearing a mask, you are not allowed to work. My boyfriend is on the second floor. Last week he was brought into an office and told someone on the 4th floor tested positive. He is older, and we have always been careful. He will be one of the ones standing in line.

I have also heard of people going to see their elderly parents and getting tested, because they would feel awful if they killed them. They were not necessarily exposed, they were being extra careful.

Last year I was in line to be tested. I was going in for a colonoscopy because a home test said I had cancer. They would not take me without a test saying I was negative. Please tell me how we fit into your neat little categories.

In fact, one grandson was vaccinated before he was technically old enough.

Both families have had Covid infections. Both families have jobs and appointments that take them into public or require travel, school age children, etc. Since omicron showed up as infections all over their communities and circles, they've been testing themselves at various points as needed to try to protect themselves and others. Home tests when they'll do, official when required.

Those lines are full of working class folks who have been vaccinated and boosted but whose jobs and lives don’t allow them to be isolated completely and totally. They’re full of teachers and healthcare workers and first responders. They’re full of fathers and brothers and sisters and mothers.

They’re full of people trying to do the right thing by getting tested so they don’t expose their co-workers and loved ones.

The anti-vaxxers aren’t waiting in line to get tested. They don’t get tested until they present at the ER in respiratory failure, demanding about Ivermectin.
