Buying off Manchin/getting him to switch to R is how McConnell/GOP nullified Sen. Warnock
let's make sure this gets said
they actively worked to nullify the election and voting power of a black senator

1. Did he formally switch to R???
I had not heard that.
I would have thought he likes his power as a Dem. |

2. I'm not sure it makes much difference at this point - he has openly declared us his enemy

3. Not formally
He will likely wait for a moment when he feels it will give him the most personal return. Im guessing either shortly before the midterms (if it looks like a republican senate takeover) or after the midterms (if it stays tied)

5. I think IF Republicans take the senate and IF Mancin switches parties, he will be a political
non-entity. The Republicans will no longer have any use for him and he will be irrelevant, just another back bench Senator. Whatever McConnell has promised him will be "forgotten". His power now rests in being able to thwart the Democrats' agenda.

11. Despite all that, he'll be an R vote. No bueno. He can vote R without thinking twice. nt

12. Thus the timing
If it looks like a republican takeover anyway.. He goes before the election "to stop any last minute democratic shenanigans" or some similar malarkey, but really to get in before the ball drops, probably in return for some important appointments or some such.
And if it doesn't, he waits till after, and if there's still a tie, he goes then, at an even higher price. And probably additional off the books rewards either way. |

8. It matters only because
We would lose the majority in the Senate and Moscow Mitch would be in charge again.

10. Turtle always has Plan B.
He has probably been working on this one for years.
And just kicked it up into high gear after the GA elections. Yes they don't have to worry about winning elections, they always have other ways to maintain power. |
