How Many Deaths and Hospitalizations have been Avoided Because of the Covid Vaccines?

According to this study by the Commonwealth Fund 1.1 million deaths and over 10 million hospitalizations in the US have been avoided thanks to the vaccines:

1. A good result of the vaccine is people are not dying alone anymore.

That was one awful thing not being able to comfort our dying.

2. I believe this is a large underestimate, they did not account for overwhelmed hospitals.

Overwhelmed hospitals would mean no access to ICU care for many more people, who would die because of ICU shortage but otherwise might have survived.

In their methods they make no mention whatsoever of handling overwhelmed hospitals, unless I missed something.

So built into their estimate is ICU capacity on a per patient basis is the same regardless of the absolute number of patients requiring an ICU.

3. NY state went from nearly 1000 deaths/day in initial wave, to around 60 per day

presently, despite the current Delta + Omicron wave.
