Attempted ‘lynching’ no joke say parents of Black boys in Arkansas school incident

(FinalCall.com) - Two students were expelled and seven suspended from Wynne High School in Wynne, Ark., but parents of two Black boys, who were victims in what parents call an attempted lynching, are furious, saying justice has not been done and their fear for the safety of their children.

Cheryl Webster said all sorts of things went through her mind but she hadn’t imagined what she was told. Some boys tried to hang Mickey, her child, and his teammate, MaKye McDaniel, with a noose during football practice.

She is furious because of the assault, incensed that school officials waited three days to notify her, and outraged because they illegally questioned Mickey without her presence or knowledge, she told The Final Call. Oddly, before she even knew what was happening, the principal and assistant principal were profusely apologizing, she recalled.

“This is worse than what I even thought it could be. What if my child would have been hung? The first thing they would have said was my son committed suicide. What kind of sh---t, I mean, stuff is that,” Ms. Webster said, restraining herself from cursing and struggling to speak through pain and anger.

She recounted her 14-year-old son’s ordeal: On Sept. 24, another student called him to the back of the weight room. One boy lifted him up while another tried to put a noose across his head and he had to fight them off, she said. “I don’t care if you’re White or Black. What happened to my son should never have happened,” Ms. Webster declared.

Expulsion isn't really a suitable punishment for what appears to be attempted murder.

/Also it's "hanged" not "hung".

I guess it's good to have racists out in the open, so we know who they are, but this crosses lines. I hope someone is investigating the parents of the kids who tried to lynch the other kids, because they are either doing a shitty job at parenting or are the source of this racial hatred.

Everyone involved in the incident is back at school and on the football team, except one boy, according to Mr. McDaniel. He suspects what he sees as lenient discipline may have happened because one boy involved is the son of a coach and another is the son of a school board member. “All of the boys’ parents are either affiliated with the school or local government,” he charged

That says it all, doesn't it. As long as your parents have connections, you can do whatever you want.

That's technically attempted homicide, but even simple assault with racial intent would be enough. If they don't discipline those kids now, they'll only get worse as they get older and then somebody WILL get lynches.

Shit.

...the Southern Strategy...the Republican pandering dog whistling has done. It's sent a message to those that, at least, seemed to have tried to suppress their racist bigotry since we thought we were past Jim Crowe days, that its OK to 'come back out'...and we get this 'shit'. If i were a black athlete looking to 'favor' some college, particularly in the South, with my talent, I'd go public with announcing that there 'ain't no effin way I'm gonna play for the 'state university' in (fill in the blank...but starting with Arkansas) that wouldn't prosecute the kids responsible and their parents.'

I go and watch my nephew play football every Saturday. My other nephew plays baseball. This will always be in the back of my mind now.

It makes me both furious and sad. I can't help but to cry reading this.

The other day my mom and me were talking and she was telling me that my dad had a cousin that was beaten and tied to railroad tracks and run over by a train. My dad in going to be 77 this year and his cousin was a few years older than him and this happened when he was a teenager, to give you some perspective on when it happened.

You think things are getting better then you read about a woman being set on fire by the KKK (according to the victim--white me at the very least) and then this.

I told her some people like to say we're living in a post racial nation. I disagree, I think the election of President Obama was like kicking a hornets nest. The crawled out of the woodwork.

We still have a very long way to go in the country. It's not just black and white either, it's Hispanic, Muslim, etc.

Wasn't this the same state where Eisenhower had to send federal troops to the state to help escort black students to school, for fear that they would be physically harmed or killed otherwise?

I don't know if I really want to bring children into this world when I read stories like this. How would explain to my children? I remember asking my mother stories about the KKK when I was 6 years old - because I could not understand how they hated me for my color. I'm 32 years old and I still don't. Never will.

I seriously don't. Where I am, I have never seen it, but just going on line, people are embolden to say what ever they want, whether its hurtful or not. I don't get the fear, and we are no threat to anyone. As my friend says, Haters gotta hate. This country has become filled with too many HATERS.
