Im sure they’ll always be able to find some BS reason to not confirm a nominee. And their supporters will always support it no matter how ridiculous.

With at least 3 younger Dems that will be there many years. For the good of the country (witness Roe v Wade, for one thing).

While we can reduce it to 6, it would have to gradually drop down when a Justices retires or dies. They are they for life.

many more Dems in the Senate. Also need more Dems in the House to stave off the inevitable investigations that would be set off as retaliation. If we can get and hold a good majority in both houses, we can accomplish a lot. Without that, our solutions to current problems are just wish dreams.

... so I guess that "rule" isn't really a rule, is it?

It's just made-up garbage coming out of Moscow Mitch's mouth.

It wasn't just an 'election year', but an end-of-2nd-term election year, which is what Moscow Mitch said at the time, when clarifying his position.

I mean the whole thing is bullshit obviously, there's no such 'rule' and never has been.

Just saying ... they're arguably not equivalent situations.

And it wasn't final year, it was final MONTH for Trump.

i.e. 'an election year', but Mitch's 2016 argument was it was an election year where the current POTUS wouldn't be POTUS next year. Which didn't apply in 2020. I mean, turns out it did, but it wasn't a guarantee.

SOOO he can argue his 2020 act wasn't hypocritical with some degree of reality.

BUT he can't argue it was ever a real fucking rule, as you point out. He absolutely pulled it out of his ass, because he's an asshole, agree 100%.

And I also agree with the estimation that a GOP Senate will never approve a Democratic POTUS' SCOTUS nominee, ever again.

They'll just say 'fuck off' like the power-mad fascist fucking pricks they are, and nobody can do jack shit, because reasons.

After all, the polls heavily favored Clinton at the time he pulled his trick on refusing even to schedule a hearing for Garland. The polls tightened later, but she was still predicted to win. Or was it just that he believed he could keep his position as majority leader and would refuse to allow any Democratic nominee to be confirmed, even it he had to do it for four years.

Eliminate the Filibuster for this vote. Get Manchin and Sinema to vote yes on this. Have Biden nominate 4 new justices. And get it done before the end of 2022.

Somehow I don’t hold a lot of hope that this will happen.

Republicans appropriate power they don’t have and Democrats refuse to use the the power they do have—or at least some of them. What a frustrating situation when so much good could be done for the country if all Democrats would cooperate.

Call their party Democrats and misuse the adjective? We have a so bought into the lies of Republicons that we don't even call our own party by the correct name.

It is not a Democrat president it is Democratic president.

We are Democratic unlike GOPers.

When there were only 13 states, a population of 2,500,000 (https://www.armstrongeconomics.com/us-population-1776-date/) and a little thing called integrity which was expected of all gentlefolk.

Things have changed a lot.
