These words from it caught my eye in light of Romney's defense budget
"It is at once a warning to us that the old solutions of more weapons and again more weapons will no longer be accepted in a Europe that is already a powderkeg waiting to go off; and it is an invitation to work towards a peace that is genuine, lasting and non-nuclear."
Unlike Romney, Obama has been thinking about this stuff for a long time.

(1,201 posts)the most were: "The President is correct" and "I agree with the President". At the end, I almost expected Romney to endorse Obama for re-election.

(89,240 posts)to pay attention to these issues ? these type of things like keeping offshore accounts , not preparing to release his tax returns just shows he does feel he was entitled to be President.
Obama had interest in all of these issues even before he got into political office. i think these are the type of people who would make good presidents. remember that Bush said something about he didn't really care about the Vietnam war . how does someone living in those times not care ?
as for Romney i knew more about these foreign policy issues than he did. the same happened with BUsh. and i ddin't get any formal education or even try to read up on it for a job or to try to run for office. it's just interest i have and so pay attention every now and then.
but this guy running for president doesn't seem to have any idea ? he really did sound like he just studied last minute by reading end of chapter summary .

(22,165 posts)Palin was plucked from obscurity (agreeing that she wasn't very bright to begin with) ... she had to go with the knowledge she had (and intensive, but immediate tutoring). This ass has known what he wanted and what he was running for (in his mind entitled to). He had years vs months.

(13,390 posts)But, I suspect his interest in international relations was totally natural, after having spent some of his childhood in Indonesia and knowing he had family in Kenya.
We have a president who may have simply stumbled upon one of his greatest strengths out of genuine self interest. How lucky we are that he decided to share with us!

I think Governor Romney maybe hasnt spent enough time looking at how our military works. You mentioned the Navy, for example, and that we have fewer ships than we did in 1916, Obama said. Well, Governor, we also have fewer horses and bayonets because the nature of our military has changed. We have these things called aircraft carriers, where planes land on them. We have ships that go underwater; nuclear submarines.
Obama added: And so the question is not a game of Battleship where were counting ships. Its: What are our capabilities?
