I am wondering how Abbott can make this promise give Abbott's refusal to fix the grid

Listen, very confident about the grid. And I can tell you why, for one: I signed almost a dozen laws that make the power grid more effective, Abbott said. I can guarantee the lights will stay on.
After the winter storm in February that left millions across the state without power, the Legislature passed a number of bills requiring additional weatherization measures for companies that maintain the states electric grid.
But experts have expressed concerns that loopholes have allowed some natural gas providers to exempt themselves from the weatherization requirements, potentially leaving the system still vulnerable.
Everything that needed to be done was done to fix the power grid in Texas, Abbott said in June when he signed two of the bills.

(15,220 posts)Abbott will say anything to keep his ass out of the hot seat. There have been numerous articles where people who actually understand the dynamics of the grid have said we will have another blackout.
When and if it happens this winter, Abbott will blame someone other than himself - most likely Beto in some strange Q-Anon fantasy.

(23,307 posts)Texas not being prepared for the ice storm shut our business down in MT for almost 3 months. In fact, we're still feeling the repercussions. Our raw product is produced in TX.

His ONLY chance of reelection is that the power stays on.

(3,325 posts)Crisscrossing the coastal area and hammering Abbot on his failure to provide Texans the basic necessities when they're absolutely needed in crisis. Hammering Abbott on the shell-game legislation that fixed nothing.
Electrical grid failure in Feb was not the last illustration of this as Abbot spoke in August of possible rolling blackouts due to summer usage.
And Abbott's now responding... looks like it's beginning to stick.

(42,550 posts)A cold snap that cold that lasted that long is very unusual down here. I hope it doesn't happen again soon, because that was really bad.

(28,252 posts)Like thousands of other Texans, we had a home power generator installed. It cost a lot---but it's better than relying on the guarantees of a shit-for-brains political hack like Abbott.

They had no electricity or heat for 3 days, no way to have even cup of tea. I told her mom is buying you a gift I hope you don't have to use unless for fun.
It will make me feel better. At one point they stayed in their car for hours to warm up.

Throughout Greater Houston, at least 25 people have died from the effects of the storm. The majority of them were over the age of 50, and all but five died of hypothermia in the extreme temperatures.
Most deaths occurred inside homes or apartments, while others died at hospitals. One person died in a backyard shed, another died in a parking lot.
