.... and sounds great. I no longer have any excuses. None. All gone.
Thanks, Tony.

(261 posts)Tony Bennett was my parent's favorite singer, so I grew up on his music. Both my parents are no longer here, but listening to him sing brought back memories of them. Made me a little sad. I was lucky to see him in concert twice. What an entertainer he is.
No Vested Interest
(5,164 posts)Tony Bennett has been a favorite of mine since the mid-1950's - when I was in college.
So we've grown old together.
Age and dementia have caught up with my long-time friend.
Don't you just hope somehow soon we can hear him again live?
At the same time on PBS a 3-hour special - Andrea Boccelli in Central Park - was also enthralling. (I've seen parts of it twice so far on different PBS stations, and will likely see it again once or twice in the next month.) Tony Bennett did a guest spot - sang "New York, New York" with Boccelli.
The Boccelli special must have been filmed pre-Covid in NYC, as there was a huge crowd sitting close to one another outside. And guest Tony Bennett ran on stage and walked tall and straight and strong at the end.
Time can do its damage quickly.
In the '60 Min' segment some weeks back, Anderson Cooper ran into Bennett and his wife on a park bench a few days after the concert. He had no memory of being at Radio City, performing over a dozen songs, or getting TWENTY standing ovations.
Breaks my heart.

(17,083 posts)He first sang I Left My Heart in San Francisco in the Fairmont's Venetian Room in 1961.
During the San Francisco Giants' recent pennant and World Series games, Tony was often in attendance, serenading the crowd.
One of my favorite places to visit is the little park at the top of Nob Hill, right across from Grace Cathedral. I never stop by without taking time to visit with Tony. He lives in a place in my heart reserved just for him.

(33,643 posts)The hilltop is such a great spot ... St. Francis down the street, too. Although my favorite part of that is long gone, the top floor bar with the fantastic Irish Coffee's ...
And (I'm just learning now is also gone) Lefty's ... another old fave from that hood.

(54,302 posts)It was at a DNC fundraiser with Al Gore and Howard Dean, and it was in the building where Tony Bennett lived. He must have been 82 then, and he looked pretty fabulous!
