61. they know it doesn't impact them at all and know not to object

You know what else costs $375-ish? A Gun Safe, but oh, that's a "need".

it's just more Right Wing Noise Machine propaganda, attacking Libs and Harris specifically as Elitist Snobs Who Think They're Better'n You, with a hint of Uppity Negro That's Thinks They're Better'n You thrown in for spice.

meantime, middle class right wingers are buying $500 generators & $1500 MSSAs & $8000 ORVs, and upper class right wingers are buying their tennagers a BMW for Xmas.

2. That's not all that unusual. Was it pottery or a cooking pot.

I know my mom paid $200 at least for her pressure cooker; I think more than that. $375 is a lot for someone like me, but isn't particularly expensive for a lot of people.

37. I gave my Son a copper cooking pot

From a family restaurant. It is at least 100 years old. A round bottom used on a coal range. You should see that thing now. Shiny. I also have a copper was tub.

Bought new hammered pot set last year. Good, but not the same quality.

Kamala did good!

the lutheran resale shop she volunteered at. i have a spare chicken roaster w/ cover from estate sale. the old 1 has a rusted out bottom, but still using it. saved the lightest big skillet. sadly i got no revere pots, so i slowly built a set from estate sales.

You'd think she bought a gram of heroin and a sack full of needles. They've really been picking on her a lot lately, and it sucks. And they've tried to stir up shit between her and people in the Cabinet, like Buttigieg. Anything to make the first woman VP feel welcome, I guess.

Their attacks are preemptive. They started on Hillary many years before she first ran for president, so they already had set the stage for their political offense. They'd just reactivate the years of ugly smears. They are unoriginal, petty and extremely dishonest, but they do play the long game quite well.

111. No, it's a perfectly normal purchase and it's an investment for a cook, which she is.

It would be a normal purchase for someone in my income bracket, who is a cook, since something like that lasts a lifetime and a good cooking pot or pan for a cook is like a good instrument for a musician.

Their hysteria is ridiculous.

19. Ever gone shopping in Paris?

Stuff is expensive there. Not Switzerland or Norway style expensive, but expensive all the same.

Of course, if it had cost $2.99 the right wing media would have been all over her for being too cheap, so it's not as if they were concerned about the price of a pot, but rather a matter of their bosses giving them an order to find something negative to report about her, and this was the best they could come up with.

I think I am going to start using a new phrase: "poverty journalism." It won't be referring to reporting about poor people, but rather to poor reporting.

28. You'll have done something I never have, and I've been living in Germany for years.

Namely, drink beer. I HATE beer. I can't stand the smell of it, the taste of it, or when it is on anyone's breath. It has always been a great mystery to me that people voluntarily ingest the stuff, but I know some people feel the same way about artichokes or Indian food, and I love both of those.

By the way, when you're done eating n France, sneak down to Spain or Italy. THEN you'll be eating!

I know what you mean about life getting in the way. My wife is German (main reason I live here), and Italy is all of a 90 minute flight from us. Prague is even closer. And yet it took us decades to get around to going down to both places. It may sound like a flimsy excuse to say that there was always something else to do, but there really was.

England is exactly an hour's flight from here. It takes longer to get into town than it takes to fly to London. And yet, it has been nearly ten years since we were last in London. Again, we just had other things to do. I know exactly what you mean.

I do like broccoli, Brussels sprouts and cauliflower, but not kale. I never put salt on anything, since there is usually plenty of it already in everything. I only like bitter chocolate, and like coffee and tea. On the other hand, I can’t stand the taste of ANY alcoholic beverage, and tobacco smoke literally makes nauseous.

Maybe I’m a borderline super taster?

63. Most European countries include sales tax

or a similar tax in the price of goods, so about 20% of the price will actually be tax. So a $300 pot without VAT or TVA or whatever they call it is more like $250, which is in line with what it might cost in a high-end kitchen store in NYC or San Francisco or DC. Plus, as you note, Paris is an expensive city - and those sales taxes go to providing benefits for the citizens.

55. Le Creuset makes very nice pots - well thought of and desired by cooks who need that kind of thing.

They are, however, just enamel over cast iron - not exactly gold and iridium. I have a much cheaper competitor's Dutch oven that does a splendid job and is holding up well.

There are currently Le C pots advertised on Google. The 6.2 liter is on sale for $299, and the 13.9 liter "goose pot" is currently $599. Kinda makes Kamala's pot look a little more reasonable, wouldn't you say?

My mother started collecting a Minton china set way in advance of getting married. A local carriage trade store would guarantee to hold the pattern for 20 years to give people time to collect their set, which they paid for on layaway each paycheque. My sister set out to buy her another serving platter for Xmas to help flesh out the set. This was in the early 70s and a pretty small platter (as platters go) was over $200.

Luxury is in the eye and wallet of the beholder.

7. Good post

But your title is written in Republicanese.

You might want to edit that to "lose."

EXCERPTS FROM THE OFFICIAL DICTIONARY OF REPUBLICANESE

In Republicanese, many words that sound alike may be spelled differently at random. A few prominent examples:

In Republicanese, the following words may be spelled at random using any of the three ways given:

A.) Two, Too, To
B.) Their, They're, There
c.) Your, Yore, You're

The Republicanese version of Robin Hood therefore starts with "In days of you're...."

The only rule is that the correct use of them as in English is never permitted twice in a row.

Words with single letters that change meaning when a letter is doubled must never be used in correct English context. The classic example is “lose” vs. “loose.” In Republicanese, if you do not win an election, then you “loose” that election. Conversely, if your (Republicanese: you’re) belt is too tight, you need it more “lose” in order to be comfortable. Another example would be the Republicanese, “I met Donald Trump, and he was rudder than I imagined,” vs. “I grabbed the ruder and was able to steer the boat to shore.”

15. This shit is getting so fucking tiresome.

The vast majority of the people representing their scumbag criminal enterprise are millionaires or billionaires. One of them has a goddamn elevator for his fucking cars. Their Dear Leader spent $140 MILLION of their tax dollars over four years, on trips to his damn golf courses. Some of it while they were being forced to fight over fucking toilet paper, baking yeast, and cleaning supplies because of his bloody incompetence. But, OMG!!!! The Democratic VP spent three hundred bucks and change on a nice pot. Democrats aren't allowed to spend a few bucks on nice things, apparently.

None of these fucking Republicans give a rat's ass about struggling people. If they did, they'd be working to pass legislation to help them--instead of blocking it all. Disgusting, hypocritical assholes, the lot of them.

Got two minutes to read this story?

That’s about how long Stormy Daniels claims Donald Trump lasted in bed.

In a Vogue magazine profile published Tuesday, New York Times reporter Amy Chozick pressed the performer for details about the extramarital affair she says she had with Trump in 2006.

“How many details can you really give about two minutes?” Daniels said. “Maybe. I’m being generous.”

Seriously, $375 for copper cookware isn’t even that expensive. I’ve spent $200 for a Scanpan (made in Denmark) frying pan and $150 for a Japanese knife. That is what good cookware costs. Yawn.

This is recycled crap. Remember John Kerry’s $75 haircut and Michelle Obama’s $450 shoes?

Bought two cooking machines over the Black Friday sales which (pre-sale) were around $400 each. Just waited for them to go on sale and bought them cheaper. I just knew that they always go on sale this time of year to just be patient. And I have an eye on a couple of good copper goods and specialty knives which are also in the same vein - for next year's sales.

Buying a good kitchen item is an smart investment - an over-priced purse, or a gold plated toilet is conspicuous consumption.

I am sure her cooking set will be remembered after the years she out of public service, when her and her family are having those evening meals.
