My poor wife ordered a couple of pies to pick up today.

A pumpkin and an apple. We're invited to dinner tomorrow. So, coming into the house, she tripped at the top of the stairs. One pie survived, but the pumpkin one shattered and was smeared all over the inside of the box. She was righteously pissed at herself for tripping, and had to go out again somewhere else.

So, I calmed her down and told her I'd go find a replacement. She was skeptical, it being the day before Thanksgiving. So, I went to the local ritzy, high-priced supermarket nearby and checked the bakery area. No pumpkin pies left, but there were several lovely Key Lime pies with whipped cream decorations. So, I bought one of those.

By the time I got home, my wife had calmed down. She said, "Key Lime is good. Thanks."

There's always a fix for a dropped pie, even if you can't get an exact replacement.

In a bowl, of course. My wife had some, too.

It all goes to show that you can't always get what you want, but what you can get might be pretty damned good. Isn't that a lesson for us all about so many things?

We didn't get a guilty verdict in Wisconsin, which sucked, but the verdicts in Georgia were much better, which didn't suck at all.

Maybe not the one you wanted, but always something that will be just fine. Of course, you pay a good deal for it, but there it is. I had a hard time deciding between the Key Lime and a French Silk pie. Love 'em both. They also had plenty of banana cream pies. No pumpkin or apply pies, though. Oh well.

Maybe she could even just use pieces of the crust and the filling put together in a pretty dish - like trifle sometimes is. I guess you could call it decomposed pumpkin pie.

The key lime pie and the good pie are probably better as they are being taken to someone else's home.

to go out to fix the situation. My clumsy Aunt once ROLLED out of a cab while holding a chocolate cake. She caught her foot on the threshold and out her body went. Cake was bounced around inside the holder but I guess the gals at the baby shower took it all in stride. She also was asked by her boss at the office she worked in to please pass the box of candy around to all. So she tripped on the phone cord (the old, heavy, black kind) and took a tumble and the chocolates flew far and wide while the phone landed on the floor and broke into smithereens. There are more Aunt stories but I will stop for now. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.

When life makes a mess of your pumpkin pie, you go get another pie and eat the smashed one out of a bowl. Tastes the same, even if you can't take it to your friend's house for dessert. Everyone likes Key Lime pie better, anyhow.

When I was five, my mother, my grandmother, and I moved into a new home in a development where there had been an apricot orchard - apparently the trees were oolder and not providing enough harvest for the landowner. You could not tell that by u. the developer made sure every yard had at least one tree. Three women, one over 70 and one under 10, were never able to cope with it all. And the neighbors were not accepting any - they had the same problem. By the time I was 15, I was completely burned out on apricots. And still am.

Holidays always have some sort of minor disaster. My friend’s veg dish cracked in the oven one year. I bought a fancy salmon spread that was expired. My all time favorite was the year we were enjoying our pie, when someone said Fiona, get your head out of the turkey butt. Kittens are curious, you know.
Adds to our history. Take care of the Mrs. She’ll probably be sore.

my cousin also attended the same college. His birthday had arrived, and I knew he'd be home alone 'cause his wife was working. I baked a cake and drove out to his home. It was dark and no lighting going up to his house. I tripped on a step and did a face plant into the cake. I continued up to his door, rang the bell, and when he opened the door, there I stood with cake and lots of frosting all over my face, declaring "Happy Birthday!" He had a good laugh....
