California sets gas price record for second day running

https://www.cnn.com/2021/11/14/energy/california-gas-prices-beat-record/index.html

New York (CNN Business)California gas prices hit $4.682 per gallon on Monday, setting a new record for the state for a second day in a row, according to the American Automobile Association.

Monday's price for regular unleaded was six-tenths of a cent higher than the Sunday average reported by AAA, which broke the all-time record of $4.671 previously set in October 2012.

America's largest state by population has the highest gas prices in the country. The national average ticked up slightly to $3.415 Monday.

AAA said heavy rainstorms in Northern California have pinched production capacity, which then trickled down to Southern California ó just what happened in Louisiana with Hurricane Ida.

$3.14 a gallon near me (Denver area).

2. Yeah, but you have to be in North Carolina

which I'm sure is lovely in places, but I'll take the high prices and half-way decent government.

4. High in Las Vegas

Lowest I saw is 3.59 at Samís. Most are approaching 4 or have exceeded it. Glad we have hybrid vehicles. One of those PNS X10-DR pickup trucks, jacked up to the point where the driver needs an oxygen mask was in front of my accord hybrid getting gas. It took almost $130 to fill the tank. My little hybrid went close to 500 miles on ten gallons of gas and cost me about 35.

I am hoping this is the beginning of the end of these huge gas hog V8 cars. It might even reduce the amount of road rage. Aggressive looking, high power vehicles encourage their use

5. Record previously set in October 2012.

Allow me to put on my "thinking" cap:

Let's see...what was going on in October 2012? Hmm...

Oh yeah, it was late in a Presidential campaign with the election only a month away.

Is it just a coincidence that gas prices spike to record levels when a Democrat is in the White House--in 2012 seeking a second term and now early in a new term with corporate media narratives about "plunging ratings" and "party in disarray" and "Vice President struggling"?

Is it just a coincidence that these Democrats just happen to represent the party pushing for more green energy and reducing the use of polluting fossil fuels like...gas?

7. It's weird we compare absolute prices and ignore adjustements

for inflation.

The picture becomes much more ambiguous when we factor in relevant and historical data to our summations.

9. Yes can we stop doing that?

Adjusted for inflation, $4.67 in 2012 equals $5.63 in 2021.

Record high price my ass.
