1. Very illuminating list from @DefendingEd, a dark money group linked to the Koch political network, of what it claims is evidence of Critical Race Theory being taught in K-12 schools in Virginia

I want to highlight some examples of things they find objectionable

The new bugaboo
Across the country, conservatives are mobilizing against the inclusion of Critical Race Theory (CRT) in K-12 education. There is just one problem: CRT is a complex theory developed by law professors a…

11. I want to be clear that I'm NOT claiming that everything is perfect in Virginia schools. Specifically, the school system does appear willing to spend considerable amounts of cash on educational consultants that don't seem to have much to offer.

12. But there are a lot of schools and running a school system is difficult and not every dollar is spent wisely.

We should try to direct resources to things that will help students the most.

But that's very different from a conspiracy to indoctrinate kids

13. That said, there is a reason why people want to talk about "Critical Race Theory" instead of the things they actually oppose.

The details tell a much different story.

1. Looks to me like what they have a problem with is

free thought and free speech. They have an orthodoxy that they don't want teachers and administrators to stray from. They're doing exactly what they accuse CRT proponents of doing.

2. They have a problem with anti-racist education.

We need to ask them WHY? they have a problem with teaching children not to be racist.

CRT is a graduate level law school course. What they are objecting to, lying about, and calling CRT is standard anti-racism or "inclusive" teaching. The idea that there is more to history than the mythology we are all taught in K-12 about the Civil War, Westward expansion, The Civil Rights movement, etc... is offensive to them as you say about orthodoxy.

They are upset that their children will ask them questions about why they have been lied to about American history being so clean and heroic. They are afraid of actually having a population that sees our history, sees our present, and wants to progress.

3. One other problem

It's likely that they've been lying to their kids all this time...and if the kids learn the truth, they'll never trust mom and dad, again!!!

4. If they're so superior why are they so afraid of the truth?

If the lost cause, white supremacy bullshit was fact, they wouldn't have to fight so hard to keep the truth hidden.

They attack any and all attempts at teaching about racism and how to counter it as the new boogeyman.

They are using ignorance about CRT to destroy all gains made against racism and bigotry in schools.

All things seen as Liberal will be attacked as CRT by the right.

And all of it another way to attack public schools.

5. Understanding our history is fundamental to understanding our present society.

There's an old saying, "the truth will set you free".
In truth, American History is rife with horrible acts of racism against many different groups.
It's not just against non-white minorities, although it usually is, but can also be inflicted on white groups.
It happened to the Irish when they came to America. Italians were also on the receiving end of racial injustice, as were other ethnic and/or religious groups that are essentially white.
CRT is basically the study of American History, with an emphasis on the terrible racial and ethnic injustices that our ancestors endured. and some still endure today.
There is another saying from Winston Churchill, "Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it".
And, of course, one of the great non-truths, "Ignorance is bliss".
Ignorance of our history creates a situation where it may very well repeat, and all the hard lessons not learned could re-manifest in all their ugliness.

Ignorance isn't bliss, it hell.
