Which leads to a larger point: Democrats often seem out of touch with voters. This manifests itself in myriad ways. Left-leaning activists often shout down detractors in defense of deeply unpopular initiatives (like defunding the police, which was defeated in Minneapolis on Tuesday night). And while Virginia voters clearly signaled that they wanted to move on from Donald Trump Youngkin strategically distanced himself from the former president during his campaign Democrats seem hellbent on making him the central boogeyman in their attempt to win over voters.
Theres something else about Youngkin that underscores a problem for the left: hes a fresh face. Democrats, on the other hand, not only ran a political lifer in Virginia Terry McAuliffe was co-chairman of the Clinton campaign in 1996 but the entire party is led by entrenched insiders. Speaker Nancy Pelosi has been in Congress since the Reagan administration, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is on his fifth president, and Biden himself was first elected to the Senate in 1972.
Fresh faces and fresh ideas are in order.

(12,218 posts)Nevertheless, fresh blood is welcome. And the new governor of Virginia based his campaign on lies and fear. TM lost by less than 2% wherein he had 66% turnout campared to 85%.
Democrats will be ok. How to combat the constant lies and fearmongering is another story.

(33,643 posts)Whenever you see there's a "?fbclid=XYZ..." in the url, if anyone uses that link, it tells the site you're visiting ... that your visit originated from Facebook.
And it's never needed in the URL, can always be deleted, starting with the question mark and everything after it. Like so:

(24,393 posts)have been in Congress over 30 years. Why not say the Rs won the VA gov race because voters are looking for the kind of experience and longevity seen in R pols like Mitch McConnell? Thats just as valid a reason as saying fresh faces are needed.
