Liberals grit teeth as their priorities fall by wayside

Politico

Progressives promised for weeks they wouldn’t compromise on the price tag or priorities in Democrats’ social spending bill. Now, they’re facing a likely insurmountable hurdle: reality.

“Embrace this," Speaker Nancy Pelosi told Democrats during a private meeting Monday evening. "And have a narrative of success."

“If we don’t act like we are winning, the American people won’t believe it either,” echoed House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer.

Their message was meant for all Democrats, not just liberals. But party leaders are keenly aware of the need to head off unrest over the potential exclusion of many top progressive priorities as they rush to clinch a deal with key centrists. To them, a bill that enacts some of the party's marquee policy promises is far better than elongating the infighting that's consumed the Democratic Party for roughly six months now.

Personally I’d rather see something get done than make a statement by losing

In fact I will take it a step further, there are some who seem to be hell bent just trying to stir shit up

It actually is kind of sick in my view, with a touch of cruelty

...which is its job.

Since Politico isn't read by ordinary voters, what would be the point of biasing their coverage?

It is a gossip rag like much of the material out there

Bloomberg actually has the most accurate and unbiased reporting, and usually one step ahead of most

That there are disagreements between progressives and moderates?

That the end result won't have everything progressives want?

A major difference that allows vague hypothesis, guess work, and spin to become more important than where the facts themselves may lead us independent of our own preferences. I'm not really certain from where you pulled the questions you asked of me.

No commitment on climate crisis is dangerous and might be our last chance to make a difference. We are so far behind countries in Europe, We always wait until it is to late, then have to try to catch up! The crisis is going to get the best of us. But don't forget the tax cut and tax breaks for a the enablers.

Euphemism for sit down and shut up progressives.

Let's see. Trump tax cuts cost $4 trillion, BBB now down to $1.5 - 1.75 trillion after 50 years of supply-side, deregulation and carbon fuel reality denial and progressives (including probably far greater than half of all millennials and younger future voters) are supposed to put on a smiley face?

How is this going to work out for the Democratic Party?

Again ... ooof!

Being able to pass even half of the most ambitious progressive agenda in nearly a century will still amount to passing the most ambitious progressive political agenda in half a century.

Should this succeed, I would be sporting a very happy face for a very long time indeed!

The alternative? Passing the most ambitious progressive agenda in half a century and being emphatically pissed about it. Somebody tell me this is not bad optics.
