2 off-duty Cops fatally shoot naked woman

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-201_162-57536751/2-off-duty-fla-officers-fatally-shoot-naked-woman/?tag=contentAux;mostPopular

Authorities say two off-duty Florida law-enforcement officers have fatally shot an armed, naked woman who confronted them at a social gathering.

The shooting occurred sometime Saturday in Hernando County.

The county sheriff's office said in a news release that the men were approached by an "armed, naked and irrational female." The news release does not identify the weapon, but it says "one or both of the law enforcement officers fired their weapons, striking the female." She died at the scene.

Both officers have been placed on administrative leave as the Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigates.

Authorities have identified the officers as Hernando County sheriff's Detective Rocky Howard and Tampa police officer William Mechler, who have served six and four years, respectively. Tampa police say Mechler was "off duty and acting in the capacity of a private citizen."

No one expects a cop to go hands on with someone armed even with a knife.

There has to be some reason people are going around naked and attacking people.

I don't know why anyone would want to use anything synthetic anyhow, when the natural stuff is already potent enough, as is. But, they do and wow, are the results bad in a lot of cases.

A lot of this stuff is synthetic or a mixture and does serious damage to the nervous system in a short time.

..."naked and irrational" indicates crazy (or drugged);

...and crazy (or drugged) and armed indicates extremely dangerous.

If she was in fact armed, they were right to shoot her.

Anyone who brandishes a gun in public is a threat. Don't know if it was a gun but a knife can be just as deadly.

They can mean many things... Was she holding a Worden spoon? Those fuckers can hurt but do not require shooting the person dead. Did she have a rocket launcher? I would shoot someone that pointed a rocket launcher at me. Was she screaming about killing everyone or was she looking for help in finding her talking dog Wilbur? The problem is, there is simply not enough detail in the article to determine if they were justified in shooting or if they are murderers.

streets I hope they don't come in my direction. I will yell stop only once and then that is it. They are not ripping a part of my face off and I will use whatever deadly force i can to stop them. If these people continue to use crap that turns them into rabid dogs then they get treated like rabid dogs.

Normally I am on the side of holding police more accountable for their actions. If you choose to put on the badge and have the right to kill then you should be held to a higher standard. That does not mean they are superhuman and can perform feats seen in movies. You have to get close to taser and these people are taking chomps out of people. In many cases these people are being pepper sprayed and shot and keep going. At that point martial arts are out of the question and honestly I would shoot them dead too.

Here is a better idea. Stop taking drugs that make you rip off your clothes and attack people.

What "weapon" was she wielding? Can this be any vaguer and less detailed?

Someone is shot and killed and the big news is that the victim is an "armed, naked and irrational female." No details on anything. Armed? With what? Irrational? What was she doing (besides being naked which in itself is not cause for execution)? Female? Uhhhh. Lets not even go there.

Can't we at least be told if she was pointing a firearm or swinging a damn big edged weapon?

What crap reporting. Who works for news organizations these days? Monkeys?

Female is a descriptive term, if it were a man they'd have said that. Being naked and armed and attacking a cop (or two) is pretty key to the story.

Should they not have mentioned those details?

Tasers, nets, tranquilizer gun, over power. Why be so quick to dispatch people?

What was the weapon? Nail clippers? A 50 caliber machine gun? What? More information or these two cops need to be out of a job.

The incident happened at a party about 1:17 p.m. at 9070 Orchard Parkway.

Hernando County sheriff's Detective Rocky Howard, 31, and Tampa police Officer William Mechler, 26, were attending the gathering when the woman, who was acting irrationally, approached them, said Hernando sheriff's Lt. Cinda Moore.

"It's my understanding that they did not know her," Moore said.

The woman left the gathering and returned a short time later with a weapon, officials said. Authorities did not disclose the weapon type; nor did they release the woman's name or age.

When she returned, one or both men fired their guns. She died at the scene.

"I can tell you that she was not part of the gathering, nor was she invited to the gathering," said Hernando County Sheriff Al Nienhaus. "So, it wasn't like she was invited to the group. She actually came up uninvited."
