They usually gain their high rank based on how they performed their military service. I think plenty of them have lost sight of their oath but it’s more important than winning battles. Of course these days military actions are limited, they mostly serve a contract administrators more than other things. And that leads to the revolving door with military contractors.

Though that might be good when the rethugs stop the budget and raising of the debt ceiling. Military construction won’t get funded till this stuff is passed and the senators and congressmen will be hearing from them.

Milley has acted honorably, he wasn't a collaborator, he was a good soldier trying to hold the line.
