What do you think? (about Covid)
If you have a million dollar life insurance policy, then REFUSE vaccine, then die from covid, will insurance pay the million? I think they (insurance CO.) could tie it up in court.

2. Only if it's considered to be suicide and it's within the (typical) two-year limit
where they won't pay out for a suicide. Vaccine refusal is at least borderline suicidal as a practical matter, but the anti-vaxxers aren't intending to die - they just don't believe they will. I don't think a lawsuit like that would go anywhere.

7. if you get that in front of the right judge you may have a verdict in your favor
Pretty fascinating to consider. There was a study done in the earlier days of COVID about life insurance rates and it didn't have nearly as much effect as would be expected from a pandemic:
https://www.nber.org/system/files/working_papers/w28172/w28172.pdf In the early days, COVID was without a doubt hitting elderly with co-morbidities the hardest. By my reading of some of those tables, three companies (Assurity, John Hancock, and Pruco) did react aggressively w/pricing. With Delta sweeping through that may change. Delta feels a lot deadlier than the first wave (anecdotally I know a lot more people affected recently than were earlier). Here's a more recent one (Sep 21): https://www.cuinsight.com/covid-19-changed-life-insurance-forever-why-it-matters-to-credit-unions.html That second link notes that rates are actually at all time lows (!). Also that there were even IRS changes that played into the rates. Really a pretty fascinating subject to dig into, even beyond anti-vaxx schadenfreude. |

9. Reckless stupidity isn't suicide. You have to *intend* to kill yourself,
and the stupid fucks who won't get vaccinated aren't intending to die - they really think at least one of the following things, none of which involve intentional suicide: Covid is a hoax; or Covid is no worse than flu or a cold; or the vaccine is more dangerous than covid; or the vaccine is a plot by the government and/or Bill Gates to take over people's minds. Nobody is out there intentionally refusing the vaccine in order to get covid and die so their family can get their life insurance. There are a lot easier ways to kill yourself than that.

3. Life Insurance would have to pay. But anti-vaxxers are still scum.

5. Agreed.
There is no "stupid shit" exclusion in life insurance policies.

8. They will tie the big policies up in court.
Then offer to settle out of court for about 30 cents on the dollar.
