traitortrump, 175 million IP addresses, potentially worth billions of dollars

A Pentagon program that delegated management of a huge swath of the Internet to a Florida company in January — just minutes before President Donald Trump left office — has ended as mysteriously as it began, with the Defense Department this week retaking control of 175 million IP addresses.

The program had drawn scrutiny because of its unusual timing, starting amid a politically charged changeover of federal power, and because of its enormous scale. At its peak, the company, Global Resource Systems, controlled almost 6 percent of a section of the Internet called IPv4. The IP addresses had been under Pentagon control for decades but left unused, despite being potentially worth billions of dollars on the open market.

Adding to the mystery, company registration records showed Global Resource Systems at the time was only a few months old, having been established in September 2020, and had no publicly reported federal contracts, no obvious public-facing website and no sign on the shared office space it listed as its physical address in Plantation, Fla. The company also did not respond to requests for comment, and the Pentagon did not announce the program or publicly acknowledge its existence until The Washington Post reported on it in April. . . . 2. There's more to this story, I think.

Sure would like to know who the incorporating officers were. I'm betting there is some connection to the Trump family.

4. Good if the whole line, from 'Florida company' and their contacts, was traced back to Pentagon

lobbyists and officials, various gop/WH types, . . .

9. I am sure they had already stolen a huge amount of money from the American people by then.

But they and their pals couldn't resist a last minute haul.

13. It Wasn't TFG

Some other scammer in that gang of crooks? Absolutely.
But, T***p has never shown the ability to make money.
Except of course bamboozling some idiot banker into lending him money he would never be able to pay back.

23. Like Lewendowski?

There were a couple of cyber savvy criminals in the mix and, iirc, some of them were placed inside the pentagon just before 1/6.

They might have something to do with that.

One of the Millers?
That tool PINO sent to the Pentagon?
It's a short list of those who had the authority, but it's not THAT short.
Lots of crooks in their upper levels.

20. I remember this story showing up last spring.

Do you suppose these IP Addresses were seasonally migratory? If that's the case, hopefully this will be only one of the first of Trumps multitudinous shenanigans that "come home to roost".

Eventually something's gotta stick. But, alas, we are, after all, a stupid bunch of suckers, we Americans.

I mean; Imagine a people who actually memorialize the 20th anniversary of shameful ineptitude on the part of their government's leadership. Then imagine these same people allowing the installation of a blowhard scam artist into the seat of supreme power in the land where, like any creature that's not properly house trained, he shits all over everything. We've been so busy supporting these delusions, pretending it's normal, we failed to notice the country's been overrun by the entrenchment of the absolute worst of us.

24. Fuck mysterious

Maybe officials know the whole story. But that’s not good enough. At the very least this demands a very public combined FBI and military investigation.

Add to that a congressional investigation.

We’re these actions traitorous? Criminal in some other way? Corruption? Follow the money?

Why is this administration slow-walking investigations into the corruption of the previous administration? Frankly I think we need a new executive branch set up to investigate the crimes of the previous administration. Yeah, I know all the reasons this is a bad idea, but we’re 8 months into this administration and all we’ve seen are slaps on the wrist, and apparently no FBI investigations of TFG apart from weak sauce tax investigations in NY.

25. The answer is buried in the Post story: it was a test of security issues by the Pentagon.

The IP addresses had never been sold or leased to the company, merely put under its control for the pilot program, created by an elite Pentagon unit known as the Defense Digital Service, which reports directly to the secretary of defense and bills itself as a “SWAT team of nerds” that solves emergency problems and conducts experimental work for the military.
