Las Vegas McCarran Int'l Airport to be renamed after Harry Reid

Pat McCarran was a Democrat, but he was also a notorious racist, bigot, anti-Semite, and xenophobe.

LONG OVERDUE. Anyone who has had to deal with immigration issues, CBP abuses at the border, or Border Patrol in the country can thank Pat McCarran for enabling it with his extremely xenophobic, McCarthyism inspired Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952.

Francis Walker was his House counterpart. Walker became director of the white nationalist/supremacist organization The Pioneer Fund, a fun little group that helped sponsor things like that wonderful little book "The Bell Curve." Walker was also a Democrat.

Their bill was vetoed by Truman, but Congress overrode his veto. Thanks to these two examples of humanity, the CBP and the USBP have nearly unchecked power and all their abuses can be brought back to the INA of 1952.

McCarran would almost certainly be a Republican in this age.

He seemed to be a Democrat primarily because of all the anti-Irish bigotry in the GOP in those days - but shared little of the FDR/Truman era platform.

It's great they've decided to honor Harry Reid instead - although I'm sure that for years, people will still refer to it as 'McCarran'.
