That version is under fire by a coalition of women's groups known as MassGAP, which is affiliated with the Massachusetts Women's Political Caucus. The group compiled the names of female applicants before Romney came to office and offered them to both Romney and his Democratic opponent Shannon O'Brien.
"It didn't really have anything to do with Romney asking women to give him names," said Carolyn Jones, who was secretary of the Massachusetts Womens' Political Caucus during the time that Romney was governor.
MassGAP, which is non--partisan, issued a statement saying that while the Romney administration started with women comprising 42 percent of newly appointed positions, by 2006, that number had dropped to 25 percent.
"So when the spotlight was on him, sure he paid some lip service. But when no one was looking, those levels plummeted to 25 percent, below where they were in the previous governor's administration," said Jesse Mermell, a Democratic selectwoman in Brookline, Mass., who was the executive director of the Massachusetts Women's Political Caucus from 2004 to 2008. During that time the organization commissioned a report on women in government positions in the state.

(326 posts)...When the left was wringing their hands after the first debate, it didn't take Mittens long to come up with another whopper or two.
Too bad we don't have another month before the Election, then more people would see how bankrupt the so-called Conservative "philosophy" really is.
And more would see that the GOP is just a front group for the biggest criminal conspiracy of all time.

(51 posts)LEXINGTON, MA- October 17, 2012 (ONN)--Federal agents this morning raided the headquarters of Romney for President following an anonymous tip. Agents from the FBI and U.S. Attorney's Office as well as local police officers loaded dozens of boxes purportedly containing pornography into a U-Haul truck under the watchful eyes of Kelli Harrison and Katie Gage, the chief of staff and deputy manager of the campaign for former governor Willard Romney.
Both Ms. Harrison and Ms. Gage expressed outrage at the likelihood their names will now forever be linked to scandal. Ms Harrison stated The women in Mitts organizations have always gone to great lengths to avoid the limelight, and now this happens!
According to reliable sources within the FBI, the Lexington police received a tip from a cell phone somewhere in Hempstead, N.Y, possibly on the campus of Hofstra University and included a detailed reference to binders full of women. This prompted Lexington Police Chief Mark Corr to request federal agents assistance in investigating the offices located at 80 Hayden Ave.
Former porn star and current adult entertainment industry mogul Jenna Jameson, although a strong Romney supporter, assisted police panting saying: Oh, yes! Thats the spot!
The candidate himself has declined comment at this time, but former governor and Romney surrogate John Sununu went on record stating the voters will probably forget this by next week.
The 10 oclock raid had originally been schedule for 8 am, but rush hour traffic on the Concord Expressway was heavier than expected.
