"Nike may have had impact on Lance Armstrong scandal, possibly involved in what USADA called 'most sophisticated' doping program ever
During a 2006 deposition related to the suit, Kathy LeMond testified that Julian Devries, a mechanic for Armstrong's team who was once close to her husband, had told her and others that Nike and Thom Weisel, a Bay Area banker who sponsored Armstrong's team, had wired $500,000 to a Swiss bank account that belonged to (UCI President Hein) Verbruggen.
In an interview with the Daily News on Monday, Kathy LeMond said she stood by her testimony. "I'm sure Julian was telling the truth," she said. Greg LeMond also testified in the suit.
The money, Kathy Lemond said Devries told her and several others, was sent to cover up a 1999 positive drug test for corticosteroids, which Armstrong had used to treat saddle sores. Devries, Kathy Lemond said during the deposition, had been disgusted by the way performance-enhancing drugs had polluted cycling."

(21,774 posts)1. Just in: Nike has ended endorsement contract with Armstrong. . .

Considering that Nike has a history of being ethically-challenged, I can only conclude that they are running scared.
Livestrong has also dumped Armstrong like a hot potato.

(26,044 posts)2. To be fair, Greg LeMond has always had an animus against Armstrong...
I always got the sense that he resented another American coming along and beating his TdF record. And, from following his career, I get the impression that LeMond holds grudges easily, and releases them practically never.
(I'm not saying there might not be solid evidence against Armstrong, but I'm suspicious of any claim that comes exclusively from LeMond or his spouse.)

the more I think LeMond's supposed grudge is a device Lance has manufactured from scratch.
