The notes of the Dec. 27 call, released Friday by the House Oversight Committee, underscore the lengths to which Trump went to try to overturn the results of the election and to elicit the support of law enforcement officials and other government leaders in that effort. Emails released last month show that Trump and his allies in the last weeks of his presidency pressured the Justice Department to investigate unsubstantiated claims of widespread 2020 election fraud, and the department’s inspector general is looking into whether department officials tried to subvert the results. “Just say the election was corrupt and leave the rest to me and the R. Congressmen,” Trump said at one point to then-Acting Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen, according to notes taken by Richard Donoghue, a senior Justice Department official who was on the call. The pressure is all the more notable because just weeks earlier, Trump’s own Attorney General William Barr, had declared that the department had found no evidence of widespread fraud that could have overturned the results. *snip*

2. In all honesty, I don't think the investigation matters at all...
Seeking truth to read back to people invested in gaslighting and denying that truth even exists is a huge waste of time. So is the unicorn "bipartisan" agreement on anything.
Democrats in the majority are blowing it hour by hour. It is nearly AUGUST...they are going to skip town for the entire month as if they were Frenchmen and the country was shut down. In the meantime, voting rights are history, state and local authorities have been empowered to nullify election results with little or no actual evidence and the filibuster is on sounder ground than it was when McConnell decided to gut it to pass SCOTUS nominees, but kept it to block majority agendas otherwise. The investigation into January 6th is futile. We already have SEEN the video, HEARD the rally and the chants and the mob, and we KNOW what happened. We will not get any deeper because the GQP has already buried the evidence and is busily ensuring it never gets out while they are in D.C. We're rearranging deck chairs on Titanic at this point instead of finding rope, anything that floats and building additional rafts to try to survive the inevitable. |

9. I truly hope you are correct...
I do not see any reason for even a small optimism though.
I am in Missouri, COVID is raging through the state at the worst rate yet, that asshole Hawley is proudly proposing racist laws to make it a crime to TEACH the truth about American history, St. Louis Co. caved to the mob and reversed a mask mandate for indoor public places, and the Senate is wasting time on a constantly dwindling infrastructure bill that will eventually lose 59-41 any way... I really do hope I am wrong, but nothing I have seen the last 25 years makes me believe I am wrong. From your lips to god's ears...but down here on Earth, the devil plays the tune lately and its not a happy note. |

21. I don't disagree but much of that could change with a large enough Democratic majority in Congress
On the other hand I’m glad I’m old.

19. Oh woe is us. No need to proceed. The fates are decided. With help like yours
we would have let Nixon get his way, McCarthy take over the senate, TFG stay in office without winning anything at all.
I have frequently despaired at the situation in this country and amazed at how the resilience of democracy has overcome the incessant evil spouted by opponents. |

Just say it was "corrupt". In other words, just lie. We will create the Big Lie from there. We can make them believe it.

We are all sick of the delay, the infighting, everything related to this crook and his henchmen. Now.
No delay, no vacation, no excuses. Speaker Pelosi, please keep this hearing on track and on time! |

18. They're already hearing from their constituents, especially about S.1 For the People Act.
I personally know people who are calling every day. I’m one of ‘em.
They’re not in ANY position to actually DO what we constituents are asking and urging them to do when they’re back home. Can’t bring up a bill, can’t call for a vote, can’t cast a vote, ANY of that. And frankly, if we don’t nag and badger and pester them to secure our right to vote, it won’t make one damn bit of difference WHAT their constituents want or beg them to do, back home. Frankly, most of the time my own Congressman (Kurt Schrader) was home, he was making time for meetings with wealthy donors and attending events for which you had to pay $100 just to get in the door. |

Ya know, sometimes vacations are cancelled because of emergencies. This is one of those times. Probably a real emergency for the repugliqons who may be losing their jobs and their freedom soon. |

with everybody from VIPs to Average Joe types. No travel expenses - save us taxpayers some money.
Infuriating! And Kyrsten Sinema has vacation plans locked in? Well I’m sorry. Kiss ‘em goodbye and STAY PUT AND DO YOUR DAMN JOB, girlfriend. You’ve got WAY too much unfinished business to deal with For the People you supposedly serve. |

23. Pence doesn't win any medals in this, either, for not refusing to certify the results.
(From "I Alone Can Fix It," by Carol Leonnig and Philip Rucker)
He was totally open to the suggestion, but didn't see a legal way, even exploring whether any defensible option existed. He met with people to hash over the extensive legal research they had conducted into his constitutional powers and historical precedent. "Pence also consulted his outside counsel and huddled with the Senate parliamentarian to understand his obligations. Pence even called Lindsey Graham, just in case the senator saw any workaround. "No," Graham said. "Really?" Pence asked. "I'd tell you if I could, but I don't. I've had my people look at it," Graham replied. "Mike, I'm no constitutional lawyer, but common sense tells you you can't do this." |
