14. They have a right but it shows great contempt...

They have a right but they show great contempt for
their neighbors. Imagine trying to sell your home and your neighbor has his or her home festooned with flags with obscenities. At least the car idiot is only bringing negative attention to himself or herself.

4. This was an obvious outcome. The town shouldn't have wasted money fighting her.

Even jerks are protected by the First Amendment.

6. Yeah. To proclaim "I am stupid" with signs in your yard is free speech.

9. Ya, I don't mind knowing where the nutjobs live

You are free to be an asshole, but too bad kids have to see that stuff. Early life lesson I guess.

5. Well, gee,

who didn't see this one coming?
The town ordinance was bullshit to begin with and you would've thought that their attorney would have told them so.

Score one for the 1st Amendment.

7. I believe it was stated in earlier threads that municipal judges in NJ merely get to rule that

yeah, there's an ordinance for that, and that they are not empowered to rule on the constitutionality of said ordinance.

I think the municipal judge's hands were tied.

Bring on the anguish.

8. I agree,

I'm just wondering why the town's attorney didn't tell the lawmakers that the ordinance was blatantly unconstitutional when it was proposed.

12. As they should.

She is fully within her rights to make it clear that a vile, vulgar individual lives in that house.

13. ACLU is right

(as they are the majority of the time). And this was a thoroughly predictable outcome. The 'state' should steer well clear of picking and choosing what type of thought, and speech, will be sanctioned.

15. Good. Free speech is fundamental. Even if I hate the message.

16. Then she won't mind when her neighbors

put up signs calling her stupid, among other things, maybe obscene things.
