I'm soooo sick and tired of clickbait news websites reporting BULLSHIT to get a rise out of people.
Remember the story yesterday about the imminent terrorist attack in Denver from the hotel room.... a la "Las Vegas"?? Thwarted by the maid?
Yeah, turns out it was bullshit again. How many people will head to the water cooler and regale their friends with stories about terror threats in the Heartland?

"We have no reason to believe this incident was connected to terrorism or a threat directed at the All-Star Game," the FBI said in a statement. "We are not aware of any threat to the All-Star Game events, venues, players, or the community at this time. As is the case with many major special events, the FBI works closely with our law enforcement partners in preparation for and in support of public safety during these events."

LAS VEGAS (AP) Three Nevada men with ties to a loose movement of right-wing extremists advocating the overthrow of the U.S. government have been arrested on terrorism-related charges in what authorities say was a conspiracy to spark violence during recent protests in Las Vegas.
Federal prosecutors say the three white men with U.S. military experience are accused of conspiring to carry out a plan that began in April in conjunction with protests to reopen businesses closed because of the coronavirus and later sought to capitalize on protests over the death of a Minneapolis man in police custody.

(12,425 posts)No the Denver story was bullshit because they fictionalized this story to make it parallel to the Las Vegas mass shooting which certainly was NOT bullshit.

(12,425 posts)It's the Fantasy Reporting.
The maid sure as hell did the right thing.
But tying it to the All Star game was irresponsible. No. I take that back, not irresponsible. It was done on purpose to drive clicks and spread fear in the public.

(102,192 posts)Was this story overblown? Quite probably, but it is true they found an arsenal of guns and arrested four people. We'll know more in coming days, but it is hardly something I do NOT want reported. Somehow I doubt these were just casual tourists, no matter what their intentions.
In light of the recent FBI warning on increased risk of domestic terrorism, Dallas just hosted the latest RW Hatefest (CPAC)which stoked up more violent inclinations among those who support the Big Lie. You may think it is time to be sanguine about possible future violence. I DO NOT.
But the reporting was LIES.
Why couldn't they report:
"Felons arrested at the Maven hotel for firearms and drug violations"
I'll tell you why. Because that would get LESS CLICKS. So they went with the outrage porn headline.
There was no threat or connection to the ALL Star Game. That's a fact.
The fact that it was reported as such should outrage EVERYONE.
Most people's view of the world is formed through 1-2 sentence snippets online from news "providers". When those snippets are written for the purpose of driving clicks and ad revenue, the consumer is the victim.
Everything else you wrote is irrelevant to my OP.
