General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsCan we do a betting pool on Chauvin's sentence?
I am betting on three years, with him actually serving about half of that. I am hoping for a minimum of ten years, but I am not holding my breath......

(108,651 posts)totally incompatible with that.
The average prison sentence on that charge for a defendant who had no prior criminal record is 12.5 years and that is without aggravating factors. I'm going to say 15 years.

(21,623 posts)Under second degree murder we can eliminate that possibility right away

(10,015 posts)Guess I was saying more what I would like to see rather than being realistic. I'll go with 25 years then, if that's possible for second degree murder.

(11,949 posts)Follow sentencing guidelines. Some on DU want life. I understand the sentiment, but would not be the way we do things.
Im guessing 12 years.

(71,961 posts)And, the fact that it's multiple charges.
I'm going with 10-15, 6 minimum in jail before parole.
Also, banned from holding a position in law enforcement.
Chainfire
(17,757 posts)I think that effectively eliminates the chances of him being police again.

(71,961 posts)I'm not sure how thoroughly some states do background checks.
So, a ban might be useless anyway.
Chainfire
(17,757 posts)If his conviction stands appeal, he will be in violation of Federal law if he come within reach of a firearm; and no state laws will be able to stand in the BATFE's way in the matter. That charge alone could get him another ten years in Club Fed.
Chauvin is done as a cop, or any other professional as far as that goes. His best hope would be to work for someone like the NRA who may welcome him with open arms. Of course, with a little luck, by the time he gets out of prison, the NRA may be a bad memory.

Do I have an inherent distrust of police departments? Yes.
So, there we are.
