Quick eveybody look @ Anthony Fauci. He is the bad guy.

Lab leak theory? Its quite possible. Cant trust the Chinese government to tell us the truth about anything, least of all the nature of their coronavirus research or any accidents involving it.
But you know who could have been in the best possible position to inform the US about it many months ahead of the pandemic? The China-embedded CDC epidemiologist who was fired by the Trump administration in July, 2019, thats who. Im referring to Dr. Linda Quick, the only person on the ground in China for the US working in this capacity at all. And she was never replaced ever. Her position was eliminated as collateral damage during Trumps trade war with China.
Do you remember Rand Paul or Tom Cotton or any other Trump water carrier protesting Quicks firing at the time or at any other time? I sure as hell dont.
So Trump, knowing that China couldnt be trusted on anything, apparently seemed to trust them just enough not to have anyone keep tabs on their virus research. And the GOP seemed to have no problems with this, either.
Maybe its time to remind the American public about all this, eh? Especially just before the next campaign cycle.

Fired the CDC's epidemiologist who was on the ground in Wuhan, China
Withdraw us from an international agency called PREDICT that was looking for future "problems"
Was told of the C-19 virus and the coming pandemic in the fall of 2019 and did nothing
except for investing in HQC and his own C-19 test kits
And sold 18 tons of PPE to China in Feb. 2020 which killed and or sickened thousands of Drs, nurses,
techs, first res-ponders, and patients too.

(14,164 posts)I'm speaking of the estimated number of Americans who would have been alive today, after getting COVID, and died, as a result of Trumps non leadership and no national plan.
According to experts, 40% of America's deaths were avoidable if the US had simply been doing on par with other western democracies. To date, almost 600,000 deaths. That means something like 250,000 Americans....fathers, mothers, daughters, sons, sisters, brothers....could have still been alive today.

If some leader, in any country, had purposely through denial, let happen a mass poisoning, or foreign invasion, happen to his country, and a quarter million citizens died as a result, he'd be lucky to not escape being hanged.
I don't know why this damning fact is not publicized more.
lagomorph777
(30,613 posts)We had five times the average death rate of the world. Probably fifty times higher than the best-performing countries. We certainly had the capability to be top-tier. So I think it is entirely reasonable to say Trump is responsible for 98% of our deaths, and the clock did not stop on January 20th. Biden inherited Trump's plague, and has acted heroically to stop it - he can't be blamed for the state he inherited, nor for the millions of Trumpist idiots who continue to spread the plague.

(2,689 posts)and gated with heavy, locked steel gates, Romney asked what all the fencing, the barbed wire, etc., were for. He was told -- and this is not fiction because that chateau-draft-dodge said it, himself -- he was told that the jobs in the factory were in such demand that the fencing was necessary to keep out the people trying to get in and steal a job!
And Romneys reaction, and this is a paraphrase of what he said, was to praise the factory as an example of a great capitalistic success because the workers were clearly treated excellently for so many outsiders to want to sneak in. I really do not believe that Romney believed what he, himself, said. Not in his heart of hearts (if he even has one). But he liked the sound of it because he knew when he told the plutocratic fascists back home theyd just applaud and cheer.

(37,157 posts)But let's not forget something else: He really believed that 47% bullshit, about people just wanting the government to "take care of them" with handouts. His grousing after the election about "people who just want stuff" was proof of that.
He knows a bit about once all credits and deductions are factored in you may not have an income tax liability. But, like plenty of conservatives, once something is a half-step removed from their personal contact, they snap to stereotypes. "People who just want stuff."
So he swallowed one line of horseshit because he wanted to. I'm not all that sure he didn't swallow the other one too. It was what he wanted to hear.

(50,272 posts)It would have been nipped so early in the bud that it would have never escalated into a pandemic that shut the nation down for 1-2 years. tRump, in his arrogance, stupidity, foolishness, and lack of real leadership, was the reason it got out of control. tRump caused the deaths of over 600,000 Americans, serious health problems for millions more, job losses for tens of millions more, and ruined our economy.
How the fucking M$M doesn't paint him as an incompetent, dangerous fool is beyond me.

(9,189 posts)The best guess was viral pneumonia, as tests for bacterium were coming back negative. As the Times article states - there was evidence consistent with an 'emerging disease', but until the pathogen was sequenced, it was only speculation.

(19,961 posts)TFG didn't know the CDC from the CIA. Did he just order ALL Americans to leave China? Or did some adviser tell him to do that to the CDC person specifically?
Putting that piece together with other pieces like disbanding the NSC pandemic unit and acknowledging the deadly virus to Bob Woodward early on but then consistently denying it to the public--very suspicious timeline that warrants investigation and potentially prosecution for genocide.

(11,726 posts)It may have been one of those "Destroying Obama's legacy" issues that he was all hard for. This actually happened in 2018 if I am not mistaken. He said that he didn't want to "wasted money" and what good was it to be paying people to do nothing. Well, a couple trillion dollars and 600,000 dead Americans later, THAT IS WHAT WE WERE PAYING THEM FOR.
I agree that it warrants the investigation, but it is very unlikely to happen. So poisoned is the political landscape that rightfully holding this ASS accountable for the very real and very costly decisions he made to mismanage this pandemic, will be seen as "political" actions and not the "Justice" that it would be.

The timing still looks suspicious.
If all law enforcement and prosecutions are reduced to "political actions" rather than "justice" then nobody will ever go to prison and all the criminals in the country will be lawless Republiqans following the example of TFG.

(9,958 posts)Not noy did Trump fire Dr. Quick, he also cut funding for a virus detection and early alert program in China (funded through USAID) as part of his war against China. With Dr. Quick on duty and the USAID team in place, the virus might have been prevented from becoming a pandemic. We do not know that, of course, but Trumps response to the virus in this country is not in doubtit resulted in thousands more unnecessary deaths due to his incompetence and his politicization of the virus. He is a murderer.

(6,921 posts)Caliman73
(11,726 posts)Trump and the GOP want to blame China for their own stupidity, malice, and incompetence. I think that it is important to find out where the virus came from for several reasons. If China leaked it out of negligence, then we need to tighten international protocols for handling viruses in labs. If they did it on purpose, then they need to be held accountable. If it happened naturally and spread as a result of secrecy and lack of quick response, then that needs to be addressed too.
What ALSO needs to be addressed are the 1000 ways which the Trump administration COULD HAVE BUT FAILED TO react in ways that South Korea, Canada, New Zealand, Vietnam, Australia, and other countries did where the virus did not have the devastating impact and death toll that the US did. Our leaders failed to act competently to protect us NO MATTER WHAT the origins of the virus were.
Vietnam a country of 90 million people right next to China has had something like 35 deaths.
My county alone (Fanklin in OH) has had almost 1,500 deaths.
