be yukking it up at the Kennedy Center Honors.
He's having fun and enjoying himself on our dime.
I'm just sick and tired of having my nose rubbed in the dirt by the likes of Manchin, Sinema and the Repugs in general.

(46,697 posts)Manchin is representing the 40% that lost.

(1,378 posts)Senators represent the state, not the national voters.
According to poll posted this weekend on DU, 60% of his constituents agree with him, and DON'T want him to vote to kill the filibuster.
So, in the end, he is representing his majority.

(58,785 posts)Remember, WV voters chose Trump by a still-solid margin in 2020, though down from 2016. Popular vote.
ALL WV reps but Manchin are Republicans, including their other senator, and they voted with Trump 92%.
Manchin voted with Trump 50% of the time. It was dicey for a while, but WV voters reelected him.

(58,785 posts)As you say.
I have no idea what he really believes in and what would constitute duty or its betrayal to him. I don't believe what he says as the lengthy process draws out and still hope he's maneuvering WV voters toward the idea that passing most of this is necessary, but then I've always been optimistic to the happy or bitter end.

Appeasing the bastard hasn't worked. It's time to threaten all of his pet projects.
I would imagine that Biden could do it, if he chooses to. He probably knows a lot about how Manchin ticks. No, I didn't say that Manchin is a tick (though WV does have a big tick problem).

(18,486 posts)Among other things, Senate earmarks are a thing of the past and campaign finance laws restrict how much pressure a President can put on senators.
LBJ was operating in an entirely different environment 60 years ago, so expecting Biden to work the system the way LBJ did is unrealistic.

(111,222 posts)His hardball tactics were infamous. By the time he got to be President, all he had to do is give them "that look" and they'd knuckle under.
Everything doesn't have to be dumped onto Biden's back.

(914 posts)It's not a slap in the face to me. I'm so excited that people are getting out and smiling.

(12,165 posts)also a slap in the face.
His op-Ed and media tour were aimed at currying favor from republicans.
I have already registered my acknowledgement of his role in dems having a thin majority in the Senate. My criticism is of his ideas and tactics.
