Under agreement, Hodgkins will admit that he knew he wasn’t allowed to be in the building and entered the Capitol with the intent of obstructing an official proceeding.

Ryan J. Reilly
@ryanjreilly
Hodgkins said he understood the sentencing guidelines to the best of his ability, his lawyer joked that’s all anyone can do. (The guidelines are very confusing!)

Zoe Tillman

Replying to @ZoeTillman
Moss asks if Hodgkins understands the max sentence for the crime he's pleading guilty to is 20 years in prison, Hodgkins says he does. Keep in mind he's likely to face much less than that, the judge is now making sure he understands how the sentencing guidelines work

Lawyer for Capitol defendant Christopher Worrell says his client fell unconscious over the weekend, and that he’s “passing out with alarming regularity.” Says Worrell's “life is in immediate risk” unless he gets out of D.C. jail.

This is some real bullshit. Who cares if he didn't go in the Capitol? If DOJ wants to be "consistent" with how they handle these cases then they should just charge EVERYONE with trespass. Why are they not doing this?

Ryan J. Reilly

NEW: The feds moved today to dismiss the case against Capitol defendant Christopher Kelly without prejudice. Filing is pretty barebones, I’ve got a call into his lawyer for an explanation.

Feds oppose pretrial release of Capitol rioter Ryan Samsel, saying he has a "a pattern” of “choking and beating women to the point of loss of consciousness” in addition to assaulting a Capitol Police officer.

Ryan J. Reilly
@ryanjreilly
In 2009, the feds say, Samsel "held a victim against her will for five hours, choking her to the point of unconsciousness, pushing her, beating her, and chipping her teeth."

Then, in 2011, the feds say, he did this:

"Hours later while arresting a rioter, [Officer-1] blacked out and collapsed in the booking area and had to be transported to the Emergency Room at a local hospital, where she was assessed to have suffered a concussion.”

Ryan J. Reilly
@ryanjreilly
"At the time of his arrest, his residence was searched pursuant to a search warrant, and the FBI located the red [MAGA] hat he was wearing the day of the riots.”

Feds also said he bragged about his role in the riots.

Ryan J. Reilly
@ryanjreilly
A Capitol rioter's massive “KING JAMES” stomach tattoo helped the feds build their case against him. @JosieHarvey_:

2. Why the plea bargaining?

Where are names we recognize, like instigators and congresspeople?
It's been almost five months. Losing hope there will be justice.

Judge indicated that, based on what we know today, the guidelines suggest a sentence of 15-21 months.

13. They have over 500 insurrectionists to prosecute...

.... the charge he pled guilty to seems likely to be the most serious charge he faced. He now faces up to 20 years and they can focus time and resources on others. Seems like a good decision to me.

It didn't say he was ratting anyone else out, but he might appear as a witness against others as part of the deal. Maybe not.

3. Seems like this is a good way to get hold of a lot of men with a pattern of abusing women.

That Samsel guy seems like a real prince. And they better not let him off.

If you had asked us before we knew the stories of all these guys, I bet we all could have predicted that they tend to have really, really serious problems with women.

15. Obviously, there is something to say about each of them, but I have to narrow it down.

First....if Worrel thinks his "life is in immediate risk" now, wait till he sees how his White Nationaiism goes over in prison.

Second...what was Bert Kreischer doing there? He never struck me as being even a little political, let alone prone to insurrection.

As for the rest of them...if prison overcrowding is a big concern, perhaps the people in charge of finding additional space for "correctional facilities" can work out a deal with the Canadian government. There are hundreds of thousands of square miles of Canadian Shield that make the Badlands look like Club Med.

They could build a facility more like a dormitory and do without all the expensive security measures and escape-proof construction. Anyone that wants to would be welcome to see if they can cross hundreds and hundreds of miles of tundra on foot - a landscape that will yield NOTHING useful or sustaining.

A truly DIY prison concept on the cheap.

This is yet another reason for single payer, so folks aren't behind on health care and everything is covered every time so localities aren't saddled with health expenses.

Not really sure what he’s up to except maybe chasing painkillers.
