5. The big question will be margin.

If she can hold the same margin of victory from last November or even expand it, thatís a good sign.

If itís noticeably smaller, there need to be alarm bells ringing at the DNC.

10. Good turnout for Dems

?s=20

Dave Weigel
@daveweigel
Registered Dems made up 58% of early vote in #NM01; that translated to 64% Stansbury, 33% Moores.

Even if this tightens up with e-day, this is the upper end of Dem performance in a Biden +23 seat.

14. Hope It's A Trend

Having been born in Albuquerque Iím proud of New Mexico.

Maybe part of the impetus of this Autocratic power thrust is them knowing they will struggle winning much fair and square.

There are more of us than them.

20. The win is not a big deal. That was certain. The margin might be.

But if stays a 30 point or so margin it means all but the most deplorable voted Democratic.

It could also mean republicans did not turn out because they knew it was a lost cause. But not buying it. The 30% of the electorate that is crazy will always turn out. If thatís all the republicans have left it is a good sign for us.

22. Great news!

CNN does not even mention the landslide proportions of just how badly Melanie Stansbury trounced Mark Moores. If you read this article, at almost EVERY possible point where they could have pointed out how well this bodes for Ds, they go silent: https://www.cnn.com/2021/06/01/politics/new-mexico-1st-district-special-election/index.html

At least the NYT does draw out the implications: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/06/01/us/politics/melanie-stansbury-new-mexico-house.html

we don't need to lose any of our slim majority right now, and hopefully it's a sign our momentum from 2018 is still going.

26. Hope This Is A Trend

Thought she would win but not by anything like 30 points.

Maybe all this Nazi activity is alarming the Center and Moderate Republicans.

Hope it matters.

28. Depending on how it is measured

she either did better than both Biden and Haaland (margin) or between them but closer to Biden percent of vote. This was a very good sign for us at least in regards to our voters coming out.

29. Stansbury trounced her Republican opponent

The margins were what all the political analysts were looking at and Stansbury blew it out of the water. The only thing that concerned me was the turnout (27%) which I read is not unusual for a special election. But still.

I'm looking forward to Virginia, the primaries (June 8) and the general (November 2). I did read that the mail-in voting was down for the primary.

We shall see.
