By Colby Hall Jun 1st, 2021, 9:24 am
Former President Donald Trump is reportedly telling people that he expects to get reinstated by August, according to New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman.
Haberman shared this rather stunning detail in a quote tweet of a CNN segment featured in a tweet from Donie OSullivan. The video features a number of QAnon followers lauding a Myanmar-style coup of the US government ostensibly to replace President Joe Biden with Trump.
Haberman wrote in her quote tweet Trump has been telling a number of people hes in contact with that he expects he will be reinstated by August with an important parenthetical caveat that states (no that isnt how it works but simply sharing the information).

(3,827 posts)are a prime example...they went inside the Capitol to cause harm never thinking justice would eventually come for them, that they would face. multiple years in jail.
That is the danger of trump the buffoon and his followers, they don't understand that actions have consequences, and because of it they can cause immense harm.
The trump the buffoon must be indicted, prosecuted and sent to jail ASAP to finally shut his mouth, in jail he will just become a bad memory.

(96,882 posts)What the US military does not have that the Myanmar military does have is:
- a corrupt Officer Corps
- an under-education Enlisted corps
- a minimally influential civilian oversight of the military

(8,105 posts)If the deliberate lack of response to numerous and repeated urgent requests from Congress, Capitol Police, Washington DC Mayor, Maryland Governor, National Guard Army General for aid and assistance on January 6th, 2021 for help in stopping the insurrection doesn't put to question the allegiance of our Officer Corps on Jan 6th, I hesitate to hazard a guess what exactly would. Yes they did eventually respond, but not until several hours later. After the damage was done and people were killed.
But you know that.
Let's not pretend there hasn't been staggering fiduciary corruption after decades of repeated investigations reported out to the press over the last 50 years and counting. Very little accountability, all things considered.
I cannot presume to determine your age which might inform me whether you're old enough to remember reports in the late 60's and early 70's of corruption with in our Officer Corps and Pentagon. I'm old as dirt as the saying goes. I've been aware, through news reporting since the late 60's and early 70's, of rampant corruption in the Military/Pentagon.
Maybe you're not old enough to remember the period during and post Viet Nam, but you are old enough to remember the invasion of Iraq? Do you not recall the staggering disappearance (and still unaccounted for) of nearly a billion U.S. Dollars in cash, under the supervision and oversight of Civilian posted to Baghdad? I'm forgetting his name, but he was brought before Joint Senate/Congressional Oversight Committee on a number of occasions. I recall McCain making quite the show of interrogating, but at the end of the day, there was no accounting, and no consequence to be paid. It was made clear to me this was not an isolated or rare occurrence of corruption or "mismanagement"
I like the term "under-educated", has a softer touch to which is really an embarrassment of what is and isn't taught in too many of our public schools nation wide, particularly in "red" states. As a Marine "brat", I can personally attest to the vast differences of public school education in three different regional parts of the country, back in the days when they still taught Civics as a requirement even in the South.
The situation has not improved, it has clearly become egregiously worse. What's more, the under educated have been inundated with extremism ideology via extremist religious and cult figures blasting on their tv sets courtesy Fox News Corps, rampant right wing extremists up and down the radio dials. We used to call this "brainwashing"
This steady diet of indoctrination is also enabled by our Military. Repeated stories over the past 3 decades of Fox News and Rush Limpbaugh served up on a 24/7-365 basis throughout Military branches and all facilities. Contributing mightily to under-educated Enlisted Force. More accurately put, contributing to the daily indoctrination of extreme right wing ideology which is worse than under-educated.
But of course you must know this.
Influential Civilian Oversight? Well, in today's reality, it really does depend on who the influencing civilians are doesn't it?
I'm done, you have the last word by all means.

(3,827 posts)And we don't know what the high ranked military is thinking. Who was the general who marched along trump when he removed protesters in Washington for the photo-op? Why didn't he stick to his principles, his love for country, his duty to country and not a politician? Why??? Why was he so easily persuaded (if we believe there was any persuasion needed) to march in military uniform along the corrupt and unlawful president? That general may have apologized, but how good is an apology after you destroy something?
Sorry, but I do not believe in the military too much, this country would have never gone to so many fake wars had the military the sense to oppose the politicians who sent them there. The brass has always been agreeable to sending troops to war, the brass likes totalitarian ideas, they have been brained washed to think that way.
Why does the majority of the military vote republican? They are brained washed to think in republican terms, they don't even realize that republicans have been a total failure when it comes to military missions, but they love to start new missions.
Why didn't any republican protest when the CIA/FBI assured us all that Putin had placed bounties on our soldiers heads in Afghanistan, and why didn't any of the high brass say anything about it either?
Sorry, but until I see domestic actions by the military to protect the country, I think the military is as dangerous to our Democracy as republicans are.

(3,827 posts)sure about your confidence that the military would not turn on its citizens, it does happen in every dictatorship, if repubs become successful in their goals of affecting Democracy to an extent that we enter into a totalitarian regime, what is there to say the Military would not embrace it?
It would be nice to know why you feel so confident about it.
I was visiting Venezuela many years ago (pre-Chavez), I was visiting a friend who had just built his house (mansion) and was showing me around. When we get to the backyard (big backyard) we can see a house below, as his is sitting high. My friends house looked small to that one. Then when you looked ahead you could see, far on the mountains, shacks...and the people who live in the shacks can see these mansions from where they are. I tell another friend who was also there, "what a contrast, I wonder what these people think every morning when they wake up and they can see these mansions around here.", my friend answers "yes, that is why I think there is going to be a social revolution in this country, the distance between the haves and havenots has become so big that something is going to happen.", the owner of the house said "No, It can't happen here!"...then it happened, and its happening.
To pretend that the USA is immune to something like that is to hide our heads in the sand, it CAN happen, but if we hide our heads in the sand we will never see the machete when it is swung at our necks.

(25,308 posts)but he is an evil nut case who has broadcast his intent in the past, and then followed through after people had dismissed his threats as empty.
During the campaign he said that if he lost, it would be due to voter fraud. He told us in that statement that he intended to claim voter fraud to upend the results of the election if Biden won. In one debate, when asked about hate groups, he told the Proud Boys to stand back and stand by. That told us who he depended on to back him. Then on Jan 6 he called on them and others to disrupt Biden's certification. He said at least 3 times during his term that he would like to be president for life and that the US should try that govrrning type. Then on Jan 6 he called his rabid followers to DC to achieve that.
How steep is our learning curve about DJT's words and behavior? Something is up. Something is being planned. He is prepping his militias and the members of the military and law enforcement who support him to be ready for another action.
We are fools if we dismiss it as crazy talk after he has shown us how he operates.
Elessar Zappa
(16,334 posts)and the DOJ are taking it seriously and will be ready if his brain dead supporters try some shit. Remember, on Jan 6th it was still Trump who was in charge. Next time, theyll be met with much more resistance.

(25,308 posts)and intelligence people are on this and have contingency plans. But I do not underestimate the RW determination and tendency to think outside the box in their planning. If their first move is to disrupt communications and hack into military security systems (with foreign assistance), that will hamper the ability to mobilize forces against them. Not to mention that they have members in the military and police. They know our weaknesses and how to exploit them. Do we know how to exploit their weaknesses? How to survive day to day in our daily lives while the struggle goes on?
In the long run, they would be defeated. But they can cause some serious damage before their defeat.

(96,882 posts)It doesn't matter that Biden had 8 million votes nationwide. We don't elect Presidents that way.
Arizona: 10,457 vote margin
Wisconsin: 20,682 vote margin
Georgia: 11,779 vote margin
42,918 votes would have flipped three States, giving Trump an Electoral College win.

(12,788 posts)He and his Republican enablers in Congress and in statehouses across the country all know that they are lying. They all know that there is no proof of serious election fraud. But they also know that a lie repeated many times will be believed by the gullible. And emphasizing that Trump is the rightful president in the minds of the domestic terrorists and those whose minds have been rotted by Fox, Qanon, and hate radio serves to condition those people to taking increasingly drastic actions to install him as president. January 6 was a beginning, but I think the continuing propaganda has a purpose and that is to justify any action on behalf of Trump, including violence and civil war. I do not believe that any such action would succeed, but it could cause thousands of deaths. Im not sure our domestic terrorism laws are strong enough to address the threat of the well-armed militias like the Oath Keepers and Proud Boysor the threat of the Republican Party for that matter when an elected representative can openly call for insurrection.
