3. Dear Girls -- Here's Why Nasty Old Religious Men Are Terrified of You
This article was posted on DU back in May, I think it needs an encore now.
http://www.alternet.org/story/155577/dear_girls_--_here%27s_why_nasty_old_religious_men_are_terrified_of_you?page=entire
You are powerful beyond words, because you threaten to unravel the control of corrupt men who abuse their authority. ---snip--- If you were not powerful, they would not take you so seriously and they take you very, very seriously. You should, too. You can set the world on fire. ---snip--- Your very existence makes them anxious. And their anxiety is particularly high because you have something no generation of girls has had before -- globally connected communities of men and women who support your equality and freedom. Fuck the nasty old religious men. |

11. "Fuck the nasty old religious men."
These girls grow up to be women who fuck whoever they want. I suspect, nasty old religious men have about zero chance.

Exact timing for an encore.
It's got me reading some other really interesting articles over there, too. It's been ages since I've visited Alternet, so thanks for the reminder as well. ![]() |

25. To be fair...
They hate everyone who doesn't look like them, act like them, believe exactly what they believe, have the same the same genitals as them, speak the same language as them, live in the same country they do, and have the same sexual orientation as them (or at least what they claim to have).

9. Malala has incredible grace, courage, and maturity for someone so young. "I am Malala" ...
... has become a national mantra as she is declared a national treasure. For myself, I see her as a world treasure and I could only dream of having her clear-eyed courage, indomitable spirit, and effortless grace.
I'm reminded of Rachel Corrie ... and pray that Malala survives, fully recovers, and continues to show us the way. |

sadly this is happening in America on the religious right - just look at Texas SBOE and what they are trying to do away with in our text books.

Until they understand that an empowered woman can give more to her community, her family, her man than a woman who is under any man's control and living in fear.

20. Women are the gateway to the next generation
clerics know that to control women is to (attempt to) control the future. It is that simple--and THIS is why fundamentalists are fixed upon women's issues.
