This is my regular route

It is one of the busiest thoroughfares in the city - I got stuck in the gridlock which followed.
I am still troubled about this shootout in the middle of the day in such a busy area. This morning we were discussing the options but how should police react when gunmen start shooting? Two of the gunmen died - one was captured.

he took us on the best four hour tour that included only one 'tour' kind stop - his mothers little shop that was filled Jamaican themed lighters, papers, pipes, etc.

But we got to see some of the prettiest forests and streams I've ever seen.

The most educational thing he did was get us caught in a Kingston traffic snarl. It made me aware of how it must be to be black in a lot of US cities as a distinct minority. And absolutely nothing bad or unpleasant was happening to me. Four old white faces in a sea of youthful black faces.

I didn't feel any racism towards me at all. But I finally got what it is to be an island in an uncertain sea.

I have white privilege by birth (I am uncertain how much worth that has in Jamaica), but I also carry a healthy amount of white guilt. I can understand why there is tension between an island and the sea even without overt racism. And all I took was the 10 cent tour.

... ourselves remarkably similar in our hopes and dreams.

The more I traveled, the more I've noticed a certain sameness around the world. Of course, I am not talking about McDonald's, Starbucks and KFC, but that we are all human and we all have aspirations that are similar once the politicians are ignored.

Thank Goodness. Thank Goodness. Your Guardian Angel...

I hate what guns do to people. If one’s around, they will get used.

by at least 40 minutes one way and got caught up in the gridlock on the way back - I was never in danger. Still we were all discussing this earlier -I think I'm a good driver, but I'm not sure I could turn my car around in such a situation.
