Mitt Romney should consider changing parties.

How can he stay a Republican when the party has so clearly mutated?

1. Because He Rejects 90%+ Of Everything The Democrats Stand For

He would be a worse fit than Manchin.

And no Democrats would vote for him. He'd never make it out of the primary. But in Utah, he's like a God to most repubs, so he's probably safe, even with his opposition to the Cult Leader.

11. Sure, But The 2 Parties Have Too Much Power

I don't see that happening for decades. Every even remote attempt has failed miserably, and like many things in our screwed up system, I don't see any hope for change. Definitely not in my lifetime, and I'm 55.

3. Really, Collins, Murkowski, and Romney should at least move to Independent.

If they had the guts to rise to the moment.

4. I support him and others creating an offshoot Republican party, one that caucuses with us...

...in order to torpedo the foaming hellbeast they turned the GOP into in their rise to power, but I don't want them putting a D in front of their name.

The "unity and bipartisanship" ball is in their court. It's their party that's bent, and they were fine with that bend until it got out of their control.

5. Right now, they need to exit the Party and declare their independence.

They know the damage that their affiliation is doing to this country. Seems like these 3 could make the move as a group and provide cover. Hell, maybe Liz will move to Independent....would that be an amazing transformation?

8. That's what I'm talking about. Call themselves "something-something Republicans" but...

...effectively they've broken the less-insane part of their party off and created a new one that accepts that they're going to have to work with us for a while. Quite a while.

Starving the Raving Monster Looney Party of victory is the only way the can get "their" party back.

14. Stay Independent and vote what they know the people want and need.

Simple...shelter during the storm, protecting general American principles while conforming to stupid conservative micro-level policies., while a single Party goes nutzoid. If they believe in Democracy, they will declare their Intendance and vote what the majority of Americans need....a government responsive to them.

When the storm is over, pick up the pieces and reform an Opposition Party, dedicated to the rule of majority vote. Just convince the people you have a better idea. The current national Republican Party is unable to project a cohesive or coherent future based on their policies or the undemocratic tendencies that the Party is trending towards....

We really need to make inroads in rural states. The divide is always rural vs. urban. Rural exists everywhere, but in some states, it's embedded - in their state government, LEO, and judicial systems.

12. I say let them split off but caucus with themselves. They're old school but still republicans...

and don't have common ground with us. Keep them at arm's length. Such a schism would hurt the party and help us.

9. They know they cannot leave the trump party because they know they

Will never get elected again. Another trumpette will get elected running for the trump party regardless of them running as an independent.

10. I'd rather him, Liz Cheney, the Lincoln Project people, Bill Kristol, W Bush and ...

rest of the never trumpers start their own party as the GOP now is the party of insurrection, sedition and anti-democracy. And it seems all of it's elected officials are so afraid of trump and their alleged base that they won't stop the lying and fealty to the "big lie".

13. I'd like the few sane Rs to stay where they are

One day, I hope, the insanity that has gripped their party will run out (or get voted out, or attempt to form their own batshit party) and the Rs will need some smart, experienced folks to run things. Wouldnít it be great to return to civil and intelligent debate, real compromise, and getting things done for the people? I am a D, through and through, but I do value other opinions/views when problem solving, and hashing things out while considering all perspectives. As long as they are sane perspectives, which the Rs have very few of, these days.

24. I agree

Gone are the days when Tip OíNeill could be diametrically opposed to Reaganís domestic agenda, yet could still be cordial. Some folks blast Michelle Obamaís friendship with W. I donít get it - she was not endorsing his policies. Things have been getting toxic for years, but has accelerated since the Orange Shitmongerer got into office.

And what, exactly, would that mean in terms of committee control and getting anything done?

While DU is far from a real world environment, I canít see too many Dems in the real world embracing him either.

23. If by switch parties you mean go to Indy.

He is not even close to welcome in our party. He is a shitty Republican who happens to love the US. Our party would be damaged if he joined it. He isn't even close to being a Democrat.

He can stay a Republican because he is just like so many of them.

28. He should become an Independent if he can't bring himself to be a Democrat.

The Republican Party is not the same one Mitt used to belong to. It's now a cult that worships one weird, CREEPY, old guy who belongs in a psychiatric institution.
