Sunday TOON - Imagine There's No Facebook

Bonus: Yesterday's strip also seems relevant

For today's Doonesbury, brooklynite already has it up. Give it a K&R.

4. I've noticed my spell/grammar check seems okay with both...

There is no context!

Gah!

7. There is an already, as in I've already done that vs. Are we all ready to go? Different meanings,

Different spellings.

All right/alright has one meaning, so only one spelling needed... and it's all right, two words, puristically speaking. If a spellchecker is using both (mine just showed alright), the programmer either doesn't know the difference or has accepted the change in language.

We need to teach kids a model. I already asked if we were all ready. Maybe someone here knows a teaching trick!!!!

8. I have no problem with the evolution of dialects.

They tend to be consistent in their structure/meaning and eventually lead to new languages.

However, it seems to me 'alright vs all right' is laziness leading to nothing except confusion.

That if he were here, John Lennon might approve of the revised lyrics.

Thanks!

10. But, but... What about the partitive genitive? No one seems to care about that anymore! I try my

Best, but I can't fight that battle by myself!!!

I have noticed that even in the media, one can still from time to time detect a gerund being preceded by a possessive... or should that be "a gerund's being preceded"?

The most important aspect to spelling and grammar: Don't let such technicalities become a tool for judging others as in some way inferior.

17. What I want to know is: what about "alrighty"?

First, you have to have one word to attach a -y to. And next, it's one of my favorite words, because when I use it, I always hear the tone of voice used by Strother Martin in "Cool Hand Luke" as he says: "What we have here is failure to communicate." I intend to go right on using alrighty whenever I feel like it after I make sure Greg the Grammarian can't hear me.

18. I can certainly see the upside of the disappearance, or at least the severe curtailment of it.

Social media can be a scourge and a drain on your life. But the cat pictures!!!
