Gov. Bill Lee signs permitless carry bill into law as Tennessee joins 18 other states

Fuck bill lee

Tennessee is officially one of 19 states where permitless gun carry will be the law.

Gov. Bill Lee on Thursday signed a bill allowing most adults to carry a handgun without a permit, an effort that was at the top of his legislative agenda for the year.

The law takes effect July 1.

In a statement on Twitter on Thursday afternoon, Lee thanked the Tennessee legislature and National Rifle Association for their work to pass the bill.

It’s a bad thing; bad for your psyche and your soul, and even for your household. But it’s very strong in this toxic country, especially when it’s wrapped up with words like “freedom” and “rights” that are mostly misunderstood.

Your permitless carry law only works within the state of TN. If you travel to other states, you will need a valid CPL and reciprocity for said permit.

For example, conceal your gun in MI without a valid permit and you WILL be charged with a felony. Then you won’t own ANY guns ANYMORE, no matter where you reside.

"In Michigan, it is legal for a person to carry a firearm in public as long as the person is carrying the firearm with lawful intent and the firearm is not concealed. You will not find a law that states it is legal to openly carry a firearm. It is legal because there is no Michigan law that prohibits it; however, Michigan law limits the premises on which a person may carry a firearm."

"The bill, known as permitless carry or "constitutional carry" by supporters, allows for open and concealed carrying of handguns without a permit.

It applies to people 21 and older, as well as members of the military ages 18 to 20. "

A person who can legally carry in TN, open or concealed, can legally open carry in MI and 17 other states without a permit.

Concealed carry without a permit in MI is a felony and I want to see anyone who does it convicted and imprisoned for it...regardless of their state of residency.

I also would like to see our CPL law repealed.

We need to go back to “may issue”, from “shall issue”.

That type of statement is where I get hung up.
How am I supposed to know that gun carrying John Smith is carrying his gun with lawful intent?
I'm being forced to guess that that person is just getting milk and not there to blow people away.

My other choice is just leave, right? I could just leave. Then that would be impacting my Constitutional right to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

That begs the question why does their rights supersede my rights?

Call it the If Guns Are So Safe Act

Any state that legalizes carry in any form, must remove metal detectors from the state governmental offices. File it under ending wasteful spending because if guns are so safe, buying metal detectors for state capital offices is simply a waste of taxpayer money.

The Vast Majority of Americans Support Universal Background Checks. Why Doesn’t Congress?

The increase in partisanship in the U.S. over the last several decades has made it much harder for legislators to compromise and enact change on a variety of issues. One of these issues is gun control, where Americans are split along ideological, geographical, and socioeconomic lines. This divide makes it extremely tough for legislators to enact legislation to curb the multitudes of suicides, murders, and mass shootings due to gun violence. But while there exists a lot of disagreement over many gun control policies, there is one that Americans in wide margins agree on and that is the necessity of universal background checks. The U.S. Congress, however, does not, and in 2013 decided not to follow the course of action supported by an overwhelming majority of American people by voting down a proposal by Senators Joe Manchin (D-W.V.) and Pat Toomey (R-Penn.) expanding the background check system. Two factors best can answer this conundrum: the expansive influence of the National Rifle Association (NRA) and a deep-seated fear in a faction of the electorate of any federal regulations on guns.

The NRA is one of the most powerful interest groups in American politics due to the millions it spends on campaign contributions and its cult-like role for its fervent members and voters. Additionally, the NRA spends more money lobbying than its rivals on the other side of the issue, most notably the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence. Under current federal law, individuals do not have to obtain a background check when buying guns online or from private sellers at a gun show. According to the Gun Control Act of 1968, individuals qualified as private sellers if they sold four or less guns per year, but in 1986, the Firearms Owners Protection Act of 1986 more amended this definition to refer to people who don’t rely on selling guns as their principal source of income. According to a 2015 study by the Harvard Injury Control Center, when adding the 34 percent of gun owners who bought their guns but didn’t go through a background check and the two thirds of those who obtained their guns from a transfer, such as a gift, inheritance, or swap from friends, about 40 percent of those who obtain firearms don’t have to go through a background check.

This past week, a woman who was upset waiting in a Burger King drive through crawled into the window & shot the place up.

There have been approx 40 random shootings on interstates this year.

People upset with others are reported to be shooting "dozens of rounds" into others' homes & cars.

A couple of days ago, a woman's vehicle was nearly sideswiped, so she honkef horn. That resulted in her being shot at.

We need more guns in this hellhole???

If the issue of private ownership of bazookas were raised, some of these fanatics would start saying, “You can have my bazooka when you pry it from my cold dead hand.” There’s no logic or reason to it anymore. Guns! Guns! Guns! “If it’s something you can use to kill people, I’m for one in every closet.”
