Have been watching the Hemingway documentary on PBS

Interesting that after each book has been completed, one of the panelists would say that this was his best book.

Then came For Whom the Bells Tolls and they interviewed John McCain who said how much he admired the main character there - American Robert Jordan. I wanted to be Jordan, McCain said.

Interesting program though watching all the big animals that he killed in Africa, and a detailed bullfighting that Hemingway admired is hard to watch.

3. I don't have a problem separating the deeply flawed man from his works...

Obviously, there are limits to this thinking--Hitler and 'Mein Kampf' come to mind. But deeply flawed does not equate to seriously demented and evil.

No doubt that he was exceedingly talented. I will fast forward through the big game hunting/bullfighting as I really can't deal with that. But, I do look forward to streaming the entire series.

4. Agree. Same with Woody Allen and Harvey Weinstein

I remember watching the movie Wind River about the disappearance of Native woman. I thought it was an important movie but, when the credits rolled at the end and I saw that Weinstein made it, I knew that it had no chance at being nominated for any award.

5. I think Hem's best book was The Sun Also Rises.

A Farewell to Arms is also very good.

7. The Sun Also Rises

Have you read the “true story” behind that book

Everybody Behaves Badly by Leslie Blume

That book changed my view of Hemingway completely. He basically used his friends, and that poor girl whom he portrayed as a slut, to achieve fame

6. Wasn't Robert Jordan a leftist?

I mean lefty Red. It’s been awhile but I think that’s implied in the story
