By Josh Feldman Apr 4th, 2021, 10:05 am
Dr. Anthony Fauci spoke with CNNs Jim Acosta on Saturday and addressed the issue of covid fatigue through the country.
There has been a lot of encouraging news about the vaccine rollout across the country. As of this posting, the CDC reports over 100 million Americans have gotten at least one dose of the vaccine and close to 60 million people are fully vaccinated including over half of all seniors. However, public health experts like Fauci and CDC director Dr. Rochelle Walensky have warned in the past week that people still need to take appropriate mitigation.
Acosta asked Fauci on Saturday what measures he would want in place now to prevent further deaths.
Fauci said people need to continue following public health guidance. We need the local people, the governors, the mayors, and others, to be able to say were not out of it yet.

So if we wrote off 250,000 Americans in order to enjoy a bit more "freedom" over the past year, we surely aren't going to bat an eye at the mere 60,000 the CDC predicts will die between now and July.
Fauci's gentle pleas and unanswered calls to action won't change that, unfortunately.

(20,829 posts)70 % of cases were in the 16 to 50 age range. A range not even eligible to be vaccinated yet. They won't start until April 15th. But they're opening the state now.
They're banking on a press friendly lower death rate for the 4th wave due to vaccinating 70% of seniors, but the new strains infect faster and potentially kill younger...
But still we're reopening.

(1,919 posts)Say Las Vegas looks to be back to pre-pandemic crowd levels. Fremont street was packed shoulder to shoulder Saturday night, the Strip was busy as well. Few wearing masks outdoors. Indoors its still required. They said Nevada is handing off control from from the state to the local governments on May 1st. They don't expect capacity restrictions to last much past then. And they have their doubts that the mask mandate will make through the summer.
